A Simple Plan!

Ozpulse created the topic: A Simple Plan!

Been playing around with this design for a simple gas hull.
Thought I would put it up here for you guys to look at!
Im thinking 3" deep may not be enough so I might change it to 4"

Wont work?
Not allowed .zip or .dxf ! :(

Yeah I will give it a go shortly!
My son is hassling me for his first gas boat so I think this will be it!
Do you think 3" deep will be enough? If not I will redraw the plans for 4" depth.
With a tunnel style top to hide the weedy motors it wont be a work of art but it should be a hoot to drive skipping all over the place! :woohoo:

I think I'd go 4" with it....just seems like that would make it easier to do the top

Hi Oz.

Looks really good. Why go complicated, when simple can do it?
Here is my remarks (as a former boatbuilder):
- Raise the front of the middle deck to avoid "dipping" when catching a wave. Just set it to be in line with the pontoons. This is also simpler to do.
- Put on a couple of fat rails in the bottom to compensate for the flat pontoons an to keep the boat "directional".

Most important: Let your son be the "leading builder". :)

Cheers! :cheer:

Thanks Woodie!
I like the simple things!
The original idea was to build the hull then glue on 2 pieces of light timber aprox.
1.5" wide x 1" deep down the outside edges underneath.(pine/balsa)
Once blended to the sides and front it should have a slight tunnel hull effect!
'Runner' in the name refers to the runners underneath.

3" depth in the hull is deep enough for the 30cc full crank motor allowing the carb and exhaust to clear the deck, if using a Homelite an extra inch of free board could be added.

Oz.

I think you are on to a project, that could be surprisingly good. Maybe even a new generation of a "killer kat"?
But still remember to raise the middle deck to avoid "dipping". May not look so fancy, but I think it's nessecary, when you have no extra depth at the pontoons.
Some fat rails along the pontoons bottom will be a must, I am sure.

Good luck!

Cheers! :cheer:

Ok, I have redrawn the plans so the hull is now 4" deep and the centre section is wider to allow easier weedy motor fitting! ;)
Woodie I did lift that centre section aswell!
Just have to convert the DXF file and I can post it up!
