Prowler build

goesman replied the topic: Re: Prowler build

i managed to mock up some motor mounts this evening to get an idea of how i want to mount it up. think i have it figured out. Since this is not a super powerful motor and this boat will never see any abuse like racing could i get away with using mounts like i have made up or should i make them out of aluminum. Even if i fiberglass reinforced them up real well. Whats your thoughts?

Hi Goesman,
I think those mounts will be ok. I would just glass or even bolt them with angle alum. It will be more for starting than power from the engine as the starter pulling will give you the most stress.

I think Moofy is right about this.
This fine construction can easily hold the motor when running.
But you should make the base stronger in order to withstand the forces in a pull start.

Cheers! :cheer:

figured i would get you updated on my build. Its been a little slow lately, kind of hard to build a boat and take care of a 2 month baby.
The motor mounts are all figured out, radio box is built and the servo mounts are slowly getting made. i chopped up an old 6 cell 7.2volt battery pack and made a 5 cell hump pack for a receiver battery. I modified the original weed whacker throttle cable to work on the boat. I need to figure out how i am going to mount the fuel tank. do some fiberglass reinforcement on the inside, i plan on fiber glassing the out side also so i can sand it down nice a smooth. No the blue foam is not what i am using to skin the top of the boat, its just super easy to cut and modify on so i can use it to mark my wood for cutting. So far so good, its been pretty easy to build. For my first build i am very proud of it.

Its been a while since i have been able to work on the boat. Between the wife and kids and starting my own business i have been busy. Finally have the major part of the hardware. main thing left is to finish sanding and painting and setting up the exhaust.
