Izusudude.

"..a cat is a mono with training wheels."
Yup! In my opinion that's the right phrase :P
Anyway that engine should be some evil bastard! Whats the make and how many hp's do you expect it to produce?
(I really would like to follow that project in these threads).

Cheers! :cheer:

Ok Woodie... Here's the pic of the 85cc twin I told ya about. It's just sitting on top of my 50" Skiff to give ya an idea of the size. I set it on a scale with the CDI and a battery for it and it came out to 6.8 pounds. SHOULD SCREAM IN A CAT WITH NO TRAINING WHEELS!!! : :woohoo: :woohoo: woohoo:

Hi Isuzu.

Thx for the pic. A real boxer in a boat is really something.
Here are the buts: It seems to be aircooled. Will that work in a boat?
Also: Are the two black tubes the exhaust, or?
In my own slow-going project, there will be no place for a motor that wide, so I will have to settle for the 1-cylinder Blata (w. 13,4 hp though).
Could be fun to compare topspeed with you some time next year. :)
Anyway: Keep up the good woodwork!

Cheers! :cheer:

It is aircooled... that's where the tricking part comes into play B) I'm going to build in 2 ducts like a ducted fan jet and make the air pass right over the heads :woohoo: It's going to take some planning but I think I got the logistics worked out in my head.... just have to make it work :S My Jersey is 17" wide at the point where I have the motor sitting. 16" wide cat @ 65" long should work fine. Long enough to prevent blowovers and wide enough to be stable(without training wheels :silly: ) I've never dealt with a cat before so I don't know the length to width ratio  Do these dimensions sound workable? I'm open for all the help and suggestions I can get!!!!! And yes the tubes are exhaust stacks. I figured where I have the hoses, I could put 90's and run 2 tuned pipes.

Hi again Izusu!

I just love your approach to building modelboats. It's much the same as mine: Doing everything yourself and do it different. This may not always give the best results, but it will always be a great challenge in both building and driving the boat.
And if it works you are the champion amongst champions!
About the 16" wide cat @ 65" I have no idea. Its not my field.
(But I would still like to compare my 56" deep vee w. 39cc Blata with yours 65" cat w. 85 boxer engine some time next summer. Top speed well above 100 km/h will be expected).

Cheers! :cheer:

Air Hobbies prefered rpm range says about 10 to 12,000  So I'm going to build a 2-1 gearbox and AMP IT UP!!! Run the biggest prop I can get... or go twin screws!!! B) Either way should be a HOOT!!!!

Izusu.

Your'e right about increasing the rpm. Two props sounds right too (I will also run with two props, as the power from the Blata is too much for just one drive). But be aware that the biggest prop is not equal to highest speed.
This I know. Some smaller prop with the right design should be much better.
The best thing will be to take advice from people who know about props.

Cheers! :cheer:
