depends on the depth of your wallet...
a good 1/8" marine grade plywood with a coating of epoxy is light, strong, and waterproof. one can also use a little filler and use the same epoxy as adhesive instead of staples and nails and so forth...

i do have some baltic burch left over from making a longboard but it feels a little heavy. would it work to make the frame of the boat from ply and then cover it in 1/8" pine? i built a mini of this boat out of just pin and it is prety strong but i don't know how it acts at speed because i never was able to get the engine i had for to work right . i was also thinking of covering a pine frame with balsa and fiber glass, would be light but i don't know about the strength.
