what is cheaper

Rhino created the topic: what is cheaper

I bought a used race 39 cal craft mono hull on ebay to rebuild
compleat but no engine/radio. I repainted it and need to think about power .
it is set up for a 45 pico nitro.but i live in a small town and have found out the city I visit the most[Victoria BC] has baned most nitro toys because of noise by laws so fuel is alittle more diffaclt to get than I thought .Anyone know of a good boat shop in Vancouver BC or do I search out nitro from drag racer and caster oil from a pharacy and make my own
PLAN B
if I go the gasoline /weedy route ,is converting a weedy cheeper than just bying an ebay special ,I love mickey mouse engineering so the weedy route sounds good but do I need to set up water cooling or do they have a built in fan/shroud arangment.the boat already has a flex cable so can a weedy be detached at the crank ,is a fly wheel needed.
any thoughts befor I open my next can of worms

Hi Rhino,
Firstly I am not a mono racer, but 39" I think maybe a little on the short side for gas but I could be wrong. I am sure some one else will put you straight on that.
Secondly if you check out Warehouse Hobbies, www.whobbies.com they still (I think) carry alot of stuff regarding home lite weedys.
Thirdly I would presume that the Pico 40 would use a 3/16 flex drive where a weedy you really would need a 1/4 inch flex shaft.
Fourthly it depends on the engine rail width, weedys need (usually) 5 inch rails and I think the Pico had about 3 to 3 and a 1/4 inch rails. That'sabout my limit as I do not know very much (next to nothing) about nitros. As I said before some one I am sure will steer you in the right direction regarding that.
Hope this helps

Hi Rhino,
I forgot that there is a direct link on the right side of the home page for Warehouse Hobbies, if you use that I think the business will give this site a small donation? by using the direct links.

If that's the hull I'm thinking about...it may be too small for a weedie. Gizmomotors.com sells Zenoahs for 205.00 if the hull can handle it!!!

its 5 inchs between the rails ,no stringers so the weedy might be overkill.could always put some in. :S

Killer hulls !! ..... owned all 3 sizes, the 33" .21 size, the 39" .45/.67 or bigger and the 44" gas hull. ** Still have the larger two

The 39 is a NITRO only size boat, SADLY not a gasser built for marine duty right now that suits it's size. Have not run my 39 in over 12 years and only kept it hoping Zenoah would come out with a marine version of there 20cc they have for the aircraft folks :(

The 44" gasser is a GREAT hull and have been racing one for a while now.

My for now retired 39"
