Homebrew Hydro!

Ozpulse replied the topic: Re: Homebrew Hydro!

The hydro is 47" long X 28 wide! ;)
Thanks for the compliments guys, makes it worth the time!
That top is for the other hydro hull, this one will be just a streamlined cockpit blended with the rest!
It will have a NACA duct in the front for airflow, and hopefully give it that drone/cyber look! B)
This was all quickly shaped using corse/fine wood rasps I used to use back when I made long bows.
Honestly only took around 35mins to carve the front to where it is now!
I have left extra material all 'round for final shaping, I understand what you guys are saying with aerodynamics etc. 11 years as a chief technition in the aviation industry and all.
I still see the old boss all the time and go in to use the lathe/mill etc. B)
It may not be rocket science but what if I threw a rocket engine on it?
I actually have a homebuilt one in the shed!
Ill give it some more work today some time and post more!

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

Hi oz looking good mate . I love the look of the other cowl. Instead of wool try the plastic tape that the surveyors use on the site pegs as it is very thin & flexible & I would cut it so it's only about an 1/8" wide . Don't use sticky tape to hold it down as it will disturb the air flow. Bobo Meyer in the USA is a well known dragster chassis builder & did windtunnel testing on his dragster wings years a go told me that they found the head of a 1/8" rivet on the wing surface reduced the amount of down for e by 1" square,so on a wing that adds up to a Hugh area. The hull size sounds good for the other idea we spoke about. I will send you some picks & info I have gathered for that as I have had some good advise from some guys on hull designs.

Hi Ozzie.

You (guys) are crazy! Dragsters, cars, helicopters, planes and boats!! Well not all of you - but anyway you make me feel a bit small with my own one-off boat project.

Well maybe just untill I beat Izusu in our little Cross-World-Competition. Could you too be ready to pick up the challenge with a sorry beginner like me?

I am not a fast builder, but expect to be ready with a mono, that runs like a bullet some day in april 2011.

I dare to dare you (too). So choose your weapon! :woohoo:
Who will be the fastest from a stand still on a quarter mile?
Best result on flat water and best result in 8" waves counts together.
Just put results together and divide by two.

Cheers! :cheer:

I would give that challenge a g. I've go a twin turbo small block chev circuit boat in the shed that will handle 8" waves no drama's. It's only clocked 108 mph. Can I use that?

Hi 41willys.

108 mph is ok for me, though I bet that you did'nt do that in rough water. ;)
But if you accept the rules of doing a quartermile run in calm water and one in rough 8" waves, youre in for our little "cyber-competition" when it gets real in about half a year.
Only rule is: Fastest boat wins. Type or size does'nt matter.
Just use a GPS to measure speed and be honest about the result. :)
Meanwhile we can feel free to boast and brag!

Cheers! :cheer:

Woodie.

PS: Few people know it, but my middlename is "Honesty". :woohoo:

Calm water and 8" waves hey?
No good for this build!
Another one of my mono/cat offshore hulls might need to be built!
Bigger and better! :woohoo:
At least with the hybrid hull I will stay neutral, neither a cat or a mono!
Just to be different!
