Hi guys fairly new to the whole model rc thing but i decided to make the "wildthing" but since i'm into actually racing real boats that are only fiberglass i've made this one into a plug and will be making a carbon fibre hull out of a mould.
Anyway heres a few pic's of where i'm at.
It will be running a talon 28cc weedwaker motor for trial reason's maybe later will get a zenolah.

Looks good so far! The wildthing was my first build also, due to a printing error it came out at 41 inches! had to shoehorn motors into it but runs well ! Not sure about a 'Talon' motor the one I have here has a fairly large casing and may be a drama to fit??:dash: But it is 32cc so may be a lot different.:? Just go to a recycling centre or a mower place and look for a 'black and decker' they were all 25cc solid crank homies. The mod one I had in mine went really well!:diablo: Good luck and keep us informed!

I don't think it's a printing error cause mine has come out about the 41 inches aswell.
I have noticed the cause on the talon motor seems big around the clutch housing but i'm thinking i maybe able to make a custom clutch cover and get rid of a touch of the housing.
For $142 i thought it was worth mucking around with cause the local swap shops seems to want about $200 for just a cheap one.
Will keep you guys informed on how it turns out.

One question i do have is should i round the keel and chine lines slightly or keep them as a sharp vee.

If yours came out around the same size then I would measure the distance between the rails! it wont be the standard 5 inch and you may have the same trouble as I did!:dash: And for what you paid for the 'talon' I would have sent you a mod 'Homelite' as a newb special!:drinks:
Try to keep it all as clean and sharp as you like it will help to stop water from rolling on any edges causing the boat to stick more!

Few more pic's have finally gotten it all faired in and sprayed ready to make a mould off it. Few progress pic's of where i'm upto.

That's cool! It's nice to see the steps involved in making a mold. What kind of seam are you going to use? Clamshell, shoebox??? Looking forward to seeing all the steps. Thanks for sharing. :drinks:

Got it all polished up today ready to lay the tooling gelcoat down only to find out the tin that has been flaoting around the garage for about 12months has gone off totally. Hopefully tomorrow i can post some pic's up of the start of the mould lay up.
Not quite sure what you mean by the hull/deck join seam being clamshell or shoebox style do you have any pic's of what you mean. Just never heard those words used in bigger boat building like i'm used to.
I was actually thinking about making something that just went over the hull edge and i could epoxy glue the 2 parts together. Is that the kinda thing you mean??

Yes that's what I meant. The joint type between the two halves. Most are "shoebox" which means the top fits over and around the bottom half. Clamshell is a "edge to edge" fit that shoes nearly no seam. A lot of the manufacturers are going with this lately, but it is a lot more difficult to get a good solid joint. Some companies doing it well include AC Model Boats and Insane Boats. Both seem to have perfected this. AC has been doing it the longest.

I would absolutely recommend that the seam also be taped from the inside of the hull with a strip of glass and resin. Otherwise they tend to eventually split apart when hit of blown over at high speeds. :drinks:

Nice project,heres a pic of my two these are both shoebox joins.You should glass the joint from inside for extra strength although that said i have used a pu adhesive before without any problems.The glassing of the seam just adds strength i case of a crash.Usually i glue the two halves together with a gelcoat bog mix then i glass the seam from inside.You can use a silcone sealant instead of the bog if you dont plan on painting but if you do then use a gelcoat bog or you can buy adhesives for the job at most glass suppliers.
