41" Falcon (01 Wicked Pickle)

Mr.Freeze created the topic: 41" Falcon (01 Wicked Pickle)

I built this boat last year but have made some changes thanks to the great guys here sharing their wealth of knowledge.
Still making improvements but here is what I have so far.

Here are some pics from my first attempt with this hull
I was running a whh wtc pipe with a stock 644 carb.

Now that I have been schooled if you will, I have made some changes for the better, lets just say it worked before but not as well I wanted. So after meeting up with my new engine guru HMETALH (A true craftsmen) I made some changes. I ditched the wtc in favor of a 1" 105* header and a 1" band steel pipe. I have also scrapped the 644 choker carb and replaced it with a nice modded 257. One of the other things changed was the strut, previously I had to use a huey cable. After my last outing and losing my shaft and prop, I decided to change over to a ferrul setup. No more lost props!!! Oh and I added is this sweet cooling ring that I painted to match the boat.

A friend of mine had a kick azz machine shop make them. I just added my own touch to it.:beach: Oh and I did shorten the pipe mount, just need to take some more pics. I might redo my radio box before I run too, not sure yet.

I received my zenoah easy start kit today

The removal of the old starter was very simple, using the supplied piston stop I removed the existing drive dog and then installed the new drive cup. It took all of 2 minutes to do and I am very pleased with the result. Before you could really feel the compression and the subsequential jerk, now it pulls over smooth as silk. I noticed it seemed to fire easier, this may be do to the spring which loads up when you pull against the compression of the engine then as it passes TDC the spring releases it's energy along with the rest of your pull.

Your Falcon cat looks good with the new pipe, it should pick up a few mph if your flange is a no water leak type, good luck. We have similar cats, notice they like the 2716 15* prop for the speed.

Well I got my pickle wet yesterday  I picked up my buddy Bill (Billium) and we made the trip up see Bruce (Heavey Metal Hobbies) to pick up Bill's engine and do a little running. All in all it was a great day! Best speed I got out of the Falcon was 55.9 and that was with the pipe still at 12" so more is there when I shorten the pipe. Gotta check the hull out again and see if there is a twist in it because it starts getting squirley over 50.
I was running an aluminum 1670/3 at the time and would like to do some more prop testing.

All my boats are using no water leak flange to prevent water leak from these orings incase they got bad, my lucky cat prop was Chris mod rounded tip and cupped 2716 15 or 20 and the pipe length was 11-1/2", surely your mod 260 and pipe could pick some more speed by more testing.
