Inline FF-Rigger

Hannibal replied the topic: Re: Inline FF-Rigger

Hi guys,
The first test runs were quite nice. What a feeling!!! After few rounds I had clacking knees. Wow...
Until now I didnt assamble the rear sponsons. I used an ABC 3317-2 with round ears, which are very important for a smooth run. The same prop without round ears always kicks her ass out of the water...- Not so nice.
Now I have to optimize same small building problems during winter time and then we will see, whats possible in spring!
Right now no speed test but this was not important for the first runs.
Over all I'm very satisfied with this FF-rigger!

Greetings

Hello Rigger friends,

I just wanted to give a short feedback about my TwinRigger. Still not so much time for testing but instead of that more time to think about how to improve the Rigger setup.

I shortened the distance between rudder and transom. Now its more stable.
Further I added the left rear sponson to support the tail.

Now I'm thinking about to change the center of gravity. Reason is the long main hull of the rigger. The prop still kick her ass out off the water and I guess the tail need more weight to push the prop back into the water.
I compared my twin inline rigger with similar ones and still thinking about to shorten the tail of the main hull about 10cm.
What do you think?

Looking forward to get some helpful clues.

Thank you in advance.

Honestly would work on reducing lift of prop and increasing the props efficiency before cutting on the boat.

If boats tail jumpy because or prop lift/walk etc ... many prop modification tricks can be done on a prop to calm it down ;)

Hi Scott,
which kind of props do you use for your Twin Rigger? Maybe you could give me some proposals how to modify the prop. Would be great.
I'm thinking about to add 15* Rake to the ABC 3317-2 to decrease the lift.
Currently the Center of the prop shaft is equal to the bottom of the rear sponson.

Backcutting and rounded tips for starters ....
Then on a cupping block increase the camber angle of blades outer 6-8 mm of working face from tips down @ 1/3 of the way to leading edge.

SEE this article: www.modelgasboats.com/Voodoo_Cupping_Tool/

On my twin had best luck with the ABC 3018/2 heavily cupped with reduced lift mods.

Hey Scott,
thanks for your support.
The article is really interesting and very easy to understand. I didn't know anything about a camber angle before...
I'm going to buy the voodoo-tool. I have already experience how to sharpen and weigh heavy a prop so I will try to do the cupping with the tool by myself.
So you had the best luck with a 3018/2. Sounds quite small. So I will do the cupping at my 3216/2 first. At the same time I will prepare a 3018/2 in parallel to see how it works.
