My smokin' Cigarette.

isuzudude replied the topic: Re: My smokin' Cigarette.

Hey Woodie, I may stop doing alot of things, but having fun is mandatory, not an option. B) And there's no way I could quit this site and not "joust" with my buddies from across the pond. I joke around alot with y'all because I like the fellowship, and most of the time, I get to learn something in the process!!!

I have no idea of what "joust" means. The english dictionary says nothing about this strange term. But on the other hand there are many technical terms in this site, that goes far beyond my understanding.
You know: I'm danish.

Anyway: I'm at it in my small workshop. It's all about getting rims, strakes and profiles to fit in a very smooth way before glueing on the boats sides.
Remember that I had no CNC, have no drawings. Just measurement by the eye and some feeling of how it should be.
In other words: I am totally scared of putting on those sides.

Cheers! :cheer:

Hi Woodie,
Joust is an old English term. It is where two knights on horses compete against each other holding long lances to knock the other of his horse. There was usually a low fence between the two. In other words it is competion between two people. You know one on one.
As for being afraid to put pieces of wood together that have carefully been made up is called, "welcome to the world of model boating".

Ohh. That's what jousting is about. Something about rich guys in heavy armour falling of the horses while the kings ugly daughter waves her scarf to the sorry "winner"?

Nothing for a viking! We are not in for such complicated things. In case of any discussion we just seperate the enemys mind from his action. This is easily done by sword or axe.

Cheers! :cheer:

Hi Woody,
Yeah, thats right, but only if he is alive enough to get the hanky, by that time his eyes are probably filled with blood so he cannot see the princess. (small mercy I guess).
So being a viking I guess we should call you ERIC.
I just hope you have not carved your v hull with your bloody big axe, or have you been more careful and dropped it on your leg and broken it :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Long time gone - not much done. :(

After many days of testing, measuring and using my fameous "measure by the eye", I finally have mounted the stringers along the top of the boats sides.
And honestly: It looks like (removed by censorship) and I would like to (removed by censorship) and (removed by censorship)
So now it's all about saving the (removed by censorship) boat and the left overs of my honour by doing some (removed by censorship) corrections.
In no way I will publicate any pic's before that is done!
But anyway:

Cheers! :cheer:

Woodie... don't get discrouraged... step back, have a Bud, or drink of choice, look it over CALMLY and see what needs to be done. ;) It's scratchbuilding Buddy, there is no right or wrong... just what ya like. B) I'm having a couple of set-backs myself, so I put it to the side, and assembled an Enforcer to break my engines with and play around with!!! ALL"S GOOD!!!!! B)

My update is finally ready. I'm ROLLING now!

First pic shows the boat with stringers side-to-deck, and still with the building-base attached.

Here the building-base is removed. On the top of the boat is shown my original inspiration - a 17 years old "plastic-cigarette", which is totally out of function now.

I have purchased some balsa-wood too. Most of it to carve the cabin over the top of the Blata. But the "balsa-guy" gave me something extra for free. About 3 square meters of 1,0 and 1,5 milimeters balsa. Those can be seen in the "front row" on the pic. (The rest is very much payed for).

Here's the naked rig so far. I have weighed it. As it is seen on the pic it weighs precisely 2046 grammes.
So I expect to keep the weight very low after putting on sides and deck.

Nothing is perfect. Even not for me. Before these pics I took out the left side-to-deck stringer and replaced it with a new. Later I could see that the right stringer had a bad shape towards the front. A replacement could not make it right, so i cut some stripes of thin balsa-wood and glued them on to fill out to the right shape. Off course for later planing and sanding.

What can I say? I am not near finished with that boat.
But is'nt that the best part? Just working on a sweet dream?

I C U later

Cheers! :cheer:
