My smokin' Cigarette.

Moofy07 replied the topic: Re:My smokin' Cigarette.

Hey Woodie,
Glad to here you are just about there. I bet you are just itching to get back to the workshop and be able to use all those clamps. As far as that sergical screw I would frame it or or make a trophy as Ozpulse said. Make sure it is somewhere prominant to remind you of all the time you missed out on during your injury.
Next week go for your life and you can make up all that lost time.

Thanks to ya all for your good wishes.

My leg is healing fine, and I guess I'll be in shape to proceed with my build in 2 or 3 days.
But untill I have some progress to present for you, I will stand a bit back for a while in order not to take too much space in this great forum.

Still not sure about what to do with that outmost fine quality shiny stainless steel surgical ankle screw though...

Cheers & thanks to ya all! :cheer:

Here's an update.

Doc says I have to take care with that leg. I am allowed to walk from my armchair to the fridge, the bathroom, the bar and to my bed. But only when nessecary.

Meanwhile I keep up my dreams, but getting less experimental.
At www.mhzusa.com I found this great machinery:

- Engine: www.mhzusa.com/MHZ-Blata-40-WR...rine-m-1531.htm
- Twin drive: www.mhzusa.com/Z-Twin-Drive-Sp...6-m-1729-T6.htm
- Gearbox: www.mhzusa.com/MHZ-Gearbox-for...le-m-1570-T.htm
(Gearbox should be part of package w. the twin drive).
- Exhaust: www.mhzusa.com/Tuned-Pipe-with...ler-m-1607W.htm

This is off course just the most important basics, I know.
The prices on the USA-site are insane, but the site is fine to get the right overwiew before I put my orders to the cheaper retailers in Europe.

As allways: Your'e WELLCOME with advices about anything.

Cheers! :cheer:

Hey Woodie... If this is the equipment you plan on putting in your boat... I've got the perfect name for it!!! THE "PANIC ATTACK" B) I looked some more last night and I can't find anything on that sharkskin. Let me know if you find anything on your end B)

Hi Isuzu.

Well, "Panic" is the actual name of my 21' speedboat (real boat, not a model).
As you know it's common to name a boat after your wife. In this case i named it after her mental condition when running at top speed.

Back to my modelgasboat: The setup is recommended for 60"+ boats, and mine is "only" 56". But that's ok. Only trouble is to get space for all the hardware.
It will take some calculations.
The engine should be placed just fine about 33 % of boats lenght from the transom. This precisely gives place for the 20 by 3" (internal) exhaust in the left side.
There will be two large air intakes and two large outlets. One for cooling air to the exhaust, and one for air to the engines air intake. Maybe supported with fans from a computer.
The challenge will be to get place for electronics and tank too. This all has to be pushed 3" to the right with the gearbox in the middle below.

Talk about at tight package in a 12" wide boat with inside profiles that makes the inner room more than one inch tighter.
The challenge will be to design a good clean layout of this.
But don't worry. I can manage! - I think....

Cheers! :cheer:

Sounds like you're all over it B) I can't wait to see the finished product! It definitely sounds like it is going to be a beast!!! I even brought my runners and formers to work tonight so I can do some fine tuning and fit testing B) Not ready for glue yet (working nights suck) but just to get a good clean fit on everything!!! I am SOOOOO looking forward to see what these 2 boats can do!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Isuzu.

Right now nothing is happening (that damn leg, U know).
But the plan is to build the basics and get ready to order engine and electronics in january 2011. Should be possible after some hard saving.
Then my son will help me installing it all, and then I'll build the removable top. Probably by carving out some balsa to the right shape.
THEN we take out all hardware again. Cover the whole lot with resin and maybe even some super shiny 3D graphite on chosen parts before we get a "professional paintbrusher" to make a super finish on the rest.
After final assembly I believe about 6 months will have passed from now.
(Is there anything like sweet dreams)? :)

BTW: What is "runners and formers"? Some terms in english are pure mumbo-jumbo to me. :silly:

Cheers! :cheer:

Sorry Woodie, I'm an airplane builder, this boat stuff is new to me :S The "runners" are the pieces I have running from bow to stern, that will double as my engine rails. The "formers" are the pieces I have interlaced running across the boat to give it the final shape. I've been out on the tailgate of my truck doing some sanding and test fitting, I should be able by the time I get off work in the morning, be close enough to at least take some pics to post B) I'm gettin so itchy, I have to catch myself, not cut any corners, and make this thing just as close to perfect as I can get it! I'm like you on this one... Check everything 10 times..... glue once!!! If it comes out as good as I want it to, I'm eventually going to build a mould and make one out of FRP!!! B) That motor you posted looks like one mean animal!!!!!!!

Isuzu.

Right bro, me think me understand now... ahem... :P
Anyway pics tells more than a 1000 impossible english terms  So show me when your'e ready.

About the 40 cc Blata (Polini) it is mostly used in (very) fast mini-bikes for young racers, but the factory has modifyed it for use in modelboats too.
These engines are known in bike-racing for their high reliability. But not cheap.
Anyway I think it's the right one for me as I dont want to spend a season or more just to make an engine run the best.

The real question is what props to buy. They should be suitable to get the best of 28.000 rpm (after the gear) with almost 7 hp on each prop.
Expert help would be nice when I get to that.

Cheers! :cheer:

Hi Woodie,
If you are looking to find out about props for the Blata try googling Viper Hulls or email on
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. They can help you, I am sure. If you are working hard on your boat and you are "All over it" as Isuzudude said, why not call it " THE RASH". :woohoo: :woohoo: Sounds logical to me. ;)
