Crankshaft Shim

Hugh replied the topic: Crankshaft Shim

What happens when the crank is a full disc, stuffed, or counterbalanced, eliminating a pork chop? :silly:

LOL.

EZ starts only fit on the marine engines and aircooled flywheel can be held by bolting a tool on the face of it.

No one would want one of those junk CY cranks in there marine engine and if they did then you devise a tool to hold it that will work with a EZ start pawl nut blocking the threaded holes. I have tools made to fit and hold the flywheel no matter the situation.

When those cranks are used in marine applications the stuffers are removed which would then give you a shelf for the shim to hold to.

Even with true full circle cranks with the side disc full metal you just devise you a tool that holds the flywheel. You don't really have any other options. You sure don't shim the rod, piston and definitely don't hold the other end of the engine.

Same crank only the current version that is made without stuffers.
They are aircooled cranks not marine ,

Im sure some will want to try full disk, stuffed, or counterbalanced cranks soon enuf. The fact that the example photos are of cy's is immaterial since you can get full disc zenoah's cranks

Like I said you hold the FLYWHEEL.

And no Zenoah does not make full circle cranks. The marine cranks are ALL porkchop style and the ones that are not are aircooled and done similar to the aircooled ones we just posted.

You want real full circle you look elsewhere.

Testing these cranks now,

I never said a production full circle "marine" crank. Nevertheless "youd hold the flywheel" :) Is a zenoah crank superior to cy?

The reason I ask is because Ive seen on several sites people speak of putting the full circle cy in the zenoah marine engine as an upgrade. Is this incorrect?

Or could another can of wrong been opened and spewed by "THE MAN!"

Carlo that is a cool tool, but I bought an ez-start from warehouse hobbies that i just use a socket to tighten on after I seated the flywheel. But never know if a product will become N/A so your tool is a great backup. I don't want to get into P*^^*&% match just info.
I have a full circle crank in my M5 zenoah, is it an air cooled crank?

It is a purpose made marine length crank but it is not a true full circle. It is the same shape as a CY without the stuffers. Of course it is closer to a full circle than a standard porkchop crank but it is not 100% round as a true full circle should be.
Those are pretty durable cranks and much better than a CY.
The China EZ starts are not quite as good as a Zenoah one but if you want a cheap substitute it is that. The new ones have metal pawls because evidently the plastic ones on those were failing. It also does not work nearly as well as a Zenoah EZ start does. You also need to be sure your mount has a hole in the center that is large enough for the pawl nut to spin inside.

Thanks for the reply Daniel. Yes it is not a zenoah ez-start. I didn't buy the ez-start it came with the engine. But if I do need to replace it I know that there is a difference now.
thanks again
