When I was making outdrives, I would put 3 L/T bushings in the drive, and I had people run them for 2 years without having to replace the bushings. If your strut will accomodate 3 bushings, put 2 at the end near the prop and 1 on the other end. Problem is most guys who sell you parts want to do exactly that. I built my drives for duarbility.
