Transmitters

johnnybegood1 replied the topic: Re:Transmitters

Again thanks for all the replies, I may have to some shopping to do maybe even used if I can find someone honest on a forum, don't know about ebay. I will be just putting around myself on a small pond more into building than racing. I would like to build a sternwheeler or some other tug with some fucntions thats why I would like the extra channels

Bob, Marc and Randy are all right. It has always been my philosophy to figure out which radio I can afford, and then buy the next one up the line.

I have run AirTronics, HiTech and Futaba over the years and had really good service out of all them. Now, I am in the process of switching from 75 MHZ to 2.4 GHZ. It's gonna take some time to get used to the idea of no exposed antenna on the boat.

Steve
I run ALL 2.4 systems
my antennas are exposed on mine. Some guys say you dont have too - but i always have and never had a issue.
Some Carbon Fiber boats and radio boxes have been said to cause issues so I run them all outside the box, not always sticking through the boat deck or hull -- but sticking up from radio box.

Never had any issues since.

I run Futaba radio systems and Hi Tec digital servos (mostly water proof) in all mine now.

I do not mix brands of servos or analog & digital servos.

Well Folks Thanks for all the great advice and after reading and researching I think for someone like me a beginner not into racing fast I am leaning towards the Futaba 4pls. Only thing I would like to know is if I can use one channel for steering, one for throttle and the other two for switching things like turning on lights or switching some othe accessories. I am sure once I buy the radio I will learn it all but want to be sure it will do what I want.before I purchase. You all are right and lean the same way put your money in the radio so no one gets hurt from a runaway boat or crashing a very expensive boat.

Yes you can do that - but you need a "Switch" to turn your switch on
yep confusing

You need to install one of these (or one like it) reading the description about it below will help explain better
hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/...ed_Switch_.html

in 3rd or 4th channel on RX then wire your lights etc to it. Then you can turn stuff on / off with TX

OK Got it, seems easy enough I was thinking on the line of a servo operating a switch I didn't know they had those. I have a lot to learn. Every time I lean towards a radio and start reading reviews I get crazy they all have good and bad it seems like. Tthats why I was kind of leaning towards the 4pls at least it is a good name brand.

eems simple enough I do play around with cb/ham radios I could handle that but would wait till warrenty was up as one reply said in that thread. What do you think of the radio for a beginner not into racing fast?

I use to hack into the 75 and 72mhz radios to add features that they didn't have.
