Thanks for the quick reply. What I am doing is looking for a radio for a couple of boats that I would like to get going. As I said I am new and not looking into high end radios at this time I don't need super fast response just dependable. I will never be racing but more into building boats that might do things like bells and whistles, spray water and lights. So I would like at least 4 channels. I understaand that Futaba and Spektrum and others are top of the line but for now I am just looking at FlySky they seem to be a good starter radio if not racing. I like the FlySky IT4 seems good enough for me and in my price range. I see that there is a newer model the GT4 but cannot find any info. Any thoughts?

I know you want a Bargain Radio

Buying a "Bargain" Radio can get you into trouble. The reason most of use run Futaba systems is the reliability.

Nothing bites like watching a boat running away - most "Boat Guys" will not use Spectrum either because of past issues with "run-a-ways" - not worth the chance for a few bucks.

Even a slower boater will do damage to people in water ? Do you run where other people are ? Is it worth the chance of hitting someone?

I use Futaba 3PM or 3PX and 4PL radios - if you check around there is some good deals and as they can run 10 boats (10 channels) u only need one good radio TX and add as many RX (receivers) as you want - up to 10 for one Good TX

By the time you get "Bargain Radios" and add extras you end up close to Futaba. Plus Futaba I use have failsafe's build in --

Just my view

I understand where your comming from I don"t like to cheap out of anything. I am not sure these boats even run and if they do I will allways be alone probaby on an old farm pond with my dog. But I am going to look at those radios just to see.

With a Futaba you can use on your other RC as well.

If you run by yourself on a small pond - isn't any reason not to try a FlySky or similar inexpensive radio

Several of the boat guys have had good luck with the inexpensive radio systems - so I can't really knock them - I just had "Good Luck" with Futaba so I run 'em

If it gets a way - not a big deal. If you run bigger lakes and with other radios around you may have issues - but small farm pond single use --- heck I might try. :woohoo:

I just hate spending money twice.

This is just my opinion, but I've seen way too many runaway boats because of use of cheaper radio equipment and/or bad installation of radio gear. In my opinion the single most important component in RC is the actual radio control equipment...that said I think if one is to spend $ in a RC the radio gear should be the one place where you should not opt for "cheaper"...get the best you can afford. A good reputable radio system, not some cheap knock offs...these days you can get good reliable systems at very reasonable prices. They pay for themselves in the end.

I agree with Randy and Marc, and take it a step further. I use the system approach and don't mix components from one manufacturer to another.
I run Futaba right down the line, servos and batteries etc. I don't have radio issues.I adopted this way back in 1987 when racing 1/10 scale electrics. Some thing to consider.
Spending a little more now saves you in the long run.
