Durable Rudder Rod

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't piano wire supposed to vibrate ( to create a tone ) and flex so a landing gear gives a cushioned landing? Is this what you want to get precise rudder response? You can make the long rod out of 1" tool steel ( or anything else ) if ya want strength I suppose ...

For those without tools or machining skill, you may want to try these if you want heavier pushrods.

Hey Jim, for you and me it's not rocket science, but we have been doing this kind of stuff for 50 plus years. I was 15 when I started and I'm 70 now.

What about the guy who works in an office, has never even seen a lathe, and when he gets one home can't figure which side to stand on.

I know that's an exaggeration, but I think you have an idea where I'm coming from.

and Steve you are right - some guys can't run a gas weed trimmer or fix a bike tire
and some of us would love to have your equipment and talent - but it's like you said "Years of experience" many of us chose diff paths -
problem these days is some kid with a scanner can create anything and program a computer to cut it out while he plays video games --- we all get older (I am no spring chicken) - some of us live for the future --- some live in the past

I agree completely with your ideas of what is taking place in all hobbies such as model boating, model planes or model cars. Now, to clear up one more erroneous post about silver solders & things sold as high temperature solders. I will post factual, detailed, information about the use of various silver solders & high temperature solders later this evening.

"We used to silver braze a 6/32 hardened bolt on the end of 1/8" music wire and found out the threads became weak point unless you thread the bolt in all the way up to the head."

Jim Allen

NOTE: I have noticed some back door "SOB's" are reducing my karma. No matter, because I will still continue to post valid information & refute nonsense, especially where mechanical engineering or tool making subjects are being discussed ! Everyone have a nice day. LOL

It is cool Jim that you fab your own parts using your experience in tooling and materials. Lets be realistic and remind all that LSG 27&36 saw cats are in the mid 90's and will be around 100mph shortly. LSG27&36 mono are mid 80's and will be in the 90's shortly. Riggers are sitting around 105 to almost 110. Most of these boats use standard equipment. Why the need to beef up your setup so much? All you have is a over built wooden shoe box that performs no better then the avg joe. It's all cool components, but is it really required on our small scale with the speeds achieved now or in the near future?

Jim,
You need to get a friggin' life.
I am damn sick of you quoting anything I say and starting a post about it how something about it isn't true.

Are you that hard up for a argument.

What are you going to tell me about what I have done and the results of the testing and use of whatever it might be and the outcome.

You have some intelligence but otherwise you are about the most ignorant person I have even seen post. Most of your posts are just a bunch of hot air. You have a whole technical section all your own and there is hardly a single thing there of any use whatsoever to anyone in model boating. It is all a total waste of your time.
It is model boating not the making of a new space shuttle.

What can you possibly tell me about what we were trying and what the outcome was. We didn't read about it in some technical book but actually did it and tested it. What I posted was the result. What does what you have to say about silver soldering or brazing have to do with anything about what I said we tried and tested? Why do you feel so inclined to quote anything and everything I post and try and make it out like it didn't, doesn't or couldn't have happened.

Why don't you go start your own forum where you can live out your fantasies.
