What speedo's are everyone running?

Motorboater created the topic: What speedo's are everyone running?

I always use the forum search feature when I can, but didn't find much in this case.

I'm wanting to know how fast I'm going on the water, and was hoping to find out how this is done. Is there a radio Tx/Rx available that will relay this in real time, or am I going to have to log it on the water somehow and then retrieve the info?
Thanks.

I just recently upgraded my cell phone, before I closed the contract on the old phone I loaded it up with different tools. ie: GPS, level, different calculators, speedometer(gives tracking information)

Any of the Garmin GPS units will record and hold the maximum speed. If you need more than that look at data loggers.

I have compared the readings of the Garmin GPS to the Stalker Pro radar gun. If both devices are used properly they read the same MPH within 1 to 1.5 MPH. Elimination of any tangent error for the radar gun is absolutely necessary! The radar gun is mounted at the end of the lake & requires a radio to communicate.

The old style Garmin are out dated and heavy

I have used the Garmin (few versions) - Gun and the Voltron -- all were very close

Voltron / Quanum and Hobby King are small accurate and cheaper - not big bulky old style GPS - use a Mini Data Logger

My Voltron with battery fits in a pill bottle

You forgot to show the battery that powers the unit. Also how you have water proofed it & the battery, if you're really using this in a boat????

Tons of guys use them in BOATS - that's why the pill bottle -- or a phone waterproof pouch (with pc floatation and 9V battery) pretty small

And YES I use them - check MY VIDEO's posted if you like

Does your Etrex float? Does a 9V battery last most of the season ?? :side:
