For all you guys that have Warpath kits already, please go ahead and to this mod to the starboard side sponson where the turn fin bolts.
You will need a 1/4" drill bit, drill / drill press, some good epoxy.
Drill 3x 1/4" holes in the upper section of the ply above the mounting holes as pictured below. The holes must go deep enough to pierce through the other piece of 1/4" plywood inside the sponson. Set your drill bit for just a little over 2.5" depth so you don't go through the sponson on the other side. This will just clear the second ply inside.
Mix up some 30min epoxy or slow cure West or similar and pour some in the hole. Fill about half of the hole's depth or so.
Cut a piece of 1/4 wood dowel and coat it with the epoxy then push it into the hole, making sure it bottoms out inside the sponson past the second ply. You can feel this pretty well when pushing it it.
There should be glue pushing out of the hole around the dowel when you push it it. You might have to twist it while pushing to get it all the way in if the hole tight. Wipe off excess glue around the dowel.
Cut the dowel close to flush with the sponson side.
Let the glue cure completely and block sand the dowels flush with the sponson.
This modification will greatly strengthen the sponson in the critical area that is enduring huge amounts of torque from the turn fin in high speed turns. It will cause the load to not be all on the outer ply and its bonding, it will disperse the load across both 1/4" plys and the sponson core.
Here are a couple pics to help better illustrate this mod. It's very easy to do. I'm cutting new kits with the holes already in the outer ply so that they can be used as guides to make this mod. Future kits will have this incorporated.
