Rare Hulls

BoatGirl1270 created the topic: Rare Hulls

This hull was given to me about 15 years ago. It is a Glastron display hull from the 80's. She was in bad shape when I got her.I decked the top properly with an arch to shed water and filled the hole in the bottom. The motor is a 30cc Homelite weed eater engine rear pull start.I did all my porting on the intake and exaust. The canister muffler has been modified to breathe easier also. It has an Octura outdrive.I'm running an X482 prop that was cut down for speed. She is not super fast but is very stable in rough water. Yes that is faux carbon fiber painted on the side! I learned that trick on an auto painting video. There is a few more pictures of her in the gallery where you can see the "carbon fiber" more clearly on the side.Has anybody else done any antique hull ressurections?

Hello Boatgirl

If this boat was in bad shape when you got it, I think you've done a splendid job of restoring it.

I like the paint work as it is unusual and stands out with the colours you have chosen.

I bet it gives you a lot of pleasure running it. I'd love to see a video clip of your boat running in choppy water.

Well done and thanks for putting up the gallery images.

Cheers
Craig

The carbon fiber paint job looks really good. Did you do it using a stencil of some kind??

Very nice boat.

All the best.

If you use the mesh matting you can buy for your toolboxes as the stencil, it will give you the same carbon fibre look. Cant remember if you spray the silver first or the black though. ;)

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

You'd probably have to do the silver first or else it wouldn't show up as well because of the black background? It looks very convincing..well done!! :cheer:

This video? There are a few more on You Tube, one using an airbrush instead of rattle cans.

Ronald.

Now that's what I call cheating!
Considering all efforts and all the spraycans in the video, I think you could get better results if you simply applyed real carbon (3-D type). It would cost a little more and take a little more work. But really not much at all.
And the result would be so much better (and stronger).
(I know there ar vids on the net about that too).

Just my 5 cents..

Cheers! :cheer:

There's nothing like the real deal to me also but there are alternatives to get around the expense from vinyl to hydroprinting when working with compound surfaces.
I see that wraps are getting to be popular with many but after time they can crack or lift. A local "wrapper" has a truck and trailer out in front of his business and the trailer's wrap is already lifting.

I met a guy that used To work for Regal Boats in the 80s. he had a salesman sample of a a 1989 regal velocitv that he pulled from a mold and had it put away all this time. I bought it for $30.00 I cac't find the pics of the bare hull. I t hade as dive platforme on the original but I modified the trandom so it wouldn't swamp. This is an ECHO weedy with a walbro 644 performance carb. I put a water cooling plate between the head and the pipe fed with a drilled rudder I made the deck with A bunch of strips of teak, oak red wood and ash I cut with my table saw I laminated them on a 1/16 piece of birch. I sheeted it over the stringers and bulkheads I made
