The Complete Guide To Selecting The Best RC Boats For Racing!

If you are into RC boats, then there is only one thing better than a remote control boat – and that’s speed. Some of the best RC boats on the market are designed for racing, so it’s important to know what you’re looking for before you make your purchase.

Conditions
You can spend as little or as much as you want on a remote control boat, and that’s the beauty of the hobby. Similarly, as long as you have some sort of body of water around you, you’re set. Ideally, when it comes to racing your boat, you want a lake or somewhere else that’s not going to give you a lot of movement from the water. This way your boat can reach the highest possible rate of speed.

Construction
You’ll need to look for a boat that is made of fiber glass construction. There are RC boats that say they’re speed boats made of other construction, but they won’t go as fast.

Power Plant
A high speed motor is going to be one of the basics you’re going to need to look for. Everything else is great, but if your motor can’t handle speed, it doesn’t matter what other kinds of bells and whistles your RC boat might have. The kind of motor you want to get is going to be a 550 type.

Many speed boats can get up to speeds of 15 to 20 mph. This is pretty fast, and when you’re actually racing, it will feel more like 40 mph. If this isn’t fast enough for you, they make nitro starter kits that you can add to your boat. In order to add this, though, you’ll need a decent size hull to be able to wire it in.

Look for one that has a water-cooling system. When you’re racing, the last thing you want is for your motor to get overheated. Your engine stalls and you lose the race. With a cooling system in place, you can have long, full-throttle runs even in extreme conditions.

Hull
A durable deep V-hull is a must. You can cut turns easily without having to worry about handling issues. So now you can go through obstacles – whether it’s part of the race or natural obstacles near the bank. It will also add to wave resistance, so you can race where and when it’s convenient for you. When you’re racing your RC boat, you’ll be in control of what the boat does without it letting you down.

The best RC boats are ones that are fast, giving you full control on the water with great maneuverability. A strong motor and a deep V-hull are some of the basic features. Depending on your budget for your remote control boats, then you can get fancier with rechargeable batteries and such, too, making it easier for you to recharge and race longer.

Not too sure about this .... seems like a direct conflict of interest of MGB's online intent.

Will talk with Marc and see what he has to say about this ?

Mercury - bad boy!

If your boat is faster than 20 mph, then shame on you! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
However you can correct this mistake by using a smaller prop and an itsy bitsy tiny engine running on strawberry juice!
If this doesn't help, try throwing an anchor before launching.
Last way out could be to use a scale steam engine. That should set things right....

Cheers! :cheer:

Good idea Woodie! Was also thinking of using one of those rubber band drive systems.

Dang 20mph!
I think my old airboat is faster than that!
This post is talking electrics, I thought they were way ahead of gas engines in the speed stakes?

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

Oh man, how evil we are!

Well. I have seen the movie "Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy", and after this it knocks me out to know front from end on a MGB, and that it floats best in water.
You live to learn!

Cheers! :cheer:

Woodie.

(Sorry. Not a word from me after this)... :P
