Help With New Build, First time Newbie

GonDeep11 created the topic: Help With New Build, First time Newbie

Hello guy's, I just joined the forum and I'm in need of help.

I just purchased an Aeromarine xXx hull and have never built a boat before. I am an avid 1/5 scale car/truck racer so not a newbie to RC.

I just don't know where to start with this, It has the hardware kit and the person I purchased it from had installed partially, Not sure they did a good job cause there are some extra holes like they screwed up...

Either way, I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction of instructions, best practices, tips & tricks I sure would appreciate it. It's been a while since I was a newbie in a hobby, I'm a Senior member on my Baja forum...

I have another boat that has a cracked hull so I'm going to rob the motor, radio box and drive gear out of it. It's a Aquacraft Rio with a CY 29cc that is virtually brand new. I want to add a clutch assembly etc. and would like to know where to get parts and which forum sponsors you recommend.

Anyone willing to hold my hand through this first build Please PM me, I would greatly appreciate it..

PS Carlos from CC racing is an active member of my Baja forum, I would bother him but I know how busy he is!

Here's a link to what I purchased www.modelgasboats.com/option,c...3/id,5686/#5686

Thanks guy's,

Pete

Welcome! We've all experienced this and we've also mis-drilled our holes! :dash: To fix someone elses' issue isnt fun, but its part of the game. If you find that the holes are WAY off, it might be a good idea to get some 30 mintue epoxy and micro balloons and fill them; to start fresh. There is an excellent review/article done by Marc on this site that will help to give you ideas, and Aeromarine will provide you with blueprints (if you don't already have them). Personally, I start with the transom hardware first, masking tape the back of the hull so that you dont crack the gelcoat, mark a center line and line up the strut. Then I mark and drill it. Create a larger hole for the shaft (the review may tell you more about placement, it is a surface drive boat where the shaft runs out of the transom, not the bottom). I'm not sure how far out to the right the rudder placement is, but again refer to the review and blueprints for placement. Once you get these marked you can work on the driveline, or install the tabs next. Usually tabs go even or about 1/32 inch up from the bottom. If you use a T-bar lining the shaft up is easy, and you'll need to find the C/G which recommendations are in the review/blueprints. I generally think that most people say it is 30 - 33 percent of the hull, and there was just a post on here about that recently. The same will apply for the position of the fuel tank, usually there is a measurement provided by the manufacturer. When it comes to the radio box - you know how to set that up, mostly I would just say try to make things as straight as you can, and avoid long runs, especially on the rudder - the linkage could bend from the force of the water. Use a strong servo, like a Hitec 755 MG BB, (1/4 scale), or a super high torque standard servo like a digital with at least 200 oz of torque. I really dont think that a hitec 645 MG or a Futaba 3305 have enough torque for the gas boats, but I have heard of people using them without too many problems. Lots of people will probably post on your thread, so you'll have plenty of advice to choose from. Once again - Welcome!

Thanks man I appreciate all the advice, I sent you a pm on sealing the holes and how you recommend doing that... From the inside or create a gasket like seal around the outdrive, steering sprag etc. and of course the screw holes in the fiberglass...

Let me know!

Thanks again
