48inch 'wildthing'Mono

marc replied the topic: Re:48inch 'wildthing'Mono

One of my first boats had a motor like that in it. You should know that it will not have anywhere near the same power as even a stock Zenoah though. I would stick with a few basic props to start...something like a Prather 270 or Octura 472...should be good to get you going and you can see from there how it runs and reacts to the props. Some stock motors ran good with the 482 also, but I think that might be a bit big for your motor. There are so many props to try, you have to start somewhere and take it from there...I think the 2 mentioned are good starter props.

Try a Prather 275 you wont have the rpm for the 270,i used a 280 on my 28 cc weedy in the same boat,by the way its not a wildthing it just looks similar.Use brass tubing for the flex, you can buy flexes welded to a stainless shaft, buy a strut and rudder or at least a strut then make the rudder if you wish.Struts with bushings in are cheap nowadays.Heresa pic of my version i change a few things on mine,i made this ruddermyself but the strut is a bought one, trim tabs i bought turn fins i made.

Martin is correct...I should have said the 275 instead of the 270...been too long since I've played with those props!

Ok so my first boat build is done !:woohoo: For some reason it ended up 41inches instead of 48, I did print it out 1to1 with CAD. Well thats what tou get with free plans.lol I have done some port work and also some piston work, aswell as making a tuned pipe for it. So it is no longer a standard 21.2cc MacColluck engine. It is finished in a blue metallic 2pack clear over base and all the hardware was made by me at work as I didnt want to spend any money on what I could do myself ! Alas it was too late by the time I got home with it today so it will have to get wet tommorow.B)

Looking good. Let us know how it runs. It looks like you don't have trim tabs on your boat...it might need some. You'll know when you run it.
