My Arrowshark.

QDRevenger replied the topic: Re:My Arrowshark.

Hey guys. Had another testing arvo down at our local test pond, pond is small. Couldn't really stretch it's legs, but starting to get faster. The Arrowshark is quite a handfull with the QD in it, having to feed in rudder when I squeeze the throttle, have to bring the power in gradually or it will wheel stand on the prop. Even when it comes on pipe it tries to stand up. Man it's a fun boat, I think it would be too much stress to race it in a heat.:P Mainly built it for SAW, but having too much fun.

Check out the video, quality not good on Y Tube but you get the idea.

My Arrowshark has aways been a fun boat with SAW speeds more in mind. But now the split of our Class 1 to Mono's and Cats I will be able to race both at the upcoming Nationals.

Vid is a quick noise test to see if it is under our 87db noise limit. It is still a bit noisy at 89-92db. Going to try some softer engine mounts. I think it is mostly induction and hull noise.

Couple of vids of testing last weekend.

Was an awesome day, perfect weather. Got a couple of vids of it running with some different props. Just a note, it's not that I can't drive a boat, she is a real handfull, trying to prop roll itself to death. When you squirt it you got to give it a heap of left rudder, when you back off, lots of right. Can't fully open her up or she wheelstands. This is the only boat that gives me the buzz. Some call it the shakes.

Enjoy the video's. Second vid is the fastest, bit imbarrassed about hitting the buoy though.:S Enjoy.

Starting to get there, handles fine, needs a better turnfin to help tighten up the turns on the oval. Main thing is to try and screw a bit more speed out of it.:)

Running mid 60's, have some SAW runs coming up in a few weeks I'll let you know for sure.

If you can do the maths, the turn 1 and 6 bouys are 100metres apart, you can get a rough speed on a couple of passes. Second vid is marginally faster.

I'd say the fastest heat race monos I have seen (those that finish races) run between 56-59... if you are mid 60's and it will finish races, that's very fast and congrats! I can honestly say I don't think I've ever seen a mono over 60 that was solid in heat racing conditions...not saying they aren't out there, but just have not seen them...and I got to a lot of the BIG races. Yours it movin'!!! :)

Mark, I never realy intended it to be for heat racing. Just that they have split our Class 1 up into mono's and cat's, I have been trying to set it up to go in circles. Little bit more fine tuning to go. And you don't have to race with your throttle pinned:P , just enough to win. You are right there though, the Arrowshark is not so stable at those speeds, especially in race chop, but if I can nail the start and get out in front for the clean water, might be ok.;)

I race my Avenger around 67 -68 in heat racing trim, nice and consistant, mostly setup.

I am going to use a rear ex qd hr in it what do you think? :) I always liked your set up handling and the clean work you have done on it.the lenght from the drive to the rudder is important too cuase i have nothing set up with it.Thanks for now . mark.

Mark,

Hardware is all Speedmaster, skeg strut with the skeg cut off, 3 3/4 standoff tapered blade (guys have recommended the 60 size blade) I cut down mine quite a bit. If you are planning on running trim tabs, try them out a little further than mine. I was told to go close, then should be further out, so if I was to build another one I would try the tabs further away from the strut. Zac's drop mounts, get the dropped front but the std rear. I ended flipping the rear mount to get down to the rails. I don't have a CG measurement, but I will check it this arvo when I get it back together. Centre of carb to the transom is 18\". If you are running a QD Hot Pipe with your rear exhaust without a muffler like mine, your CG should be bang on with the 18\" I have a 500ml bag just in front of the motor. Good starting prop for the QDHR might be an ABC 2714/3 chopper.

Any other questions, yell out.
