Classic Cracker

marc w created the topic: Classic Cracker

This is not a winterproject as it is already 80% finished, but probably it will get finished during this wintertime.
Base is a N-Box Crackerbox from Zipkits. I added some modifications to give it a different look;
- more tumblehome stern
- rounded the stern
- put the cockpit a bit more forward
- installing own rc-box (featured on MGB)
- creating my own hardware (featured on MGB(
(except for the strut, rudderblade and cnc-ed rudder-hinge plate)
- most distinctive, the added deck and cowl for the engine bay

There are already some Zipkits described builds to find on the internet, so I will not go into the construction. Although I can state that indeed it is very easy to build. Also for somebody who has no experience in scratchbuilding boats. I took extra care in covering every spot of bare wood with epoxy so it will hold up in time. It has a Zenoah 260 (light modded) with a Jeroen tune silentpipe with side exhaust. The exhaust on the side of the hull is fully functioning and watercooled. Still dialing it in but it likes a smaller prop (6717-6518) running at 50+ mph.

Cockpit further forward

Bear hull is ready

Cockpit coaming

Yes I am a fan of varnished mahogany

Hardware taking shape

Waterproof rc-box

Engine cowl done with foam and epoxy

Business-end

What is left to do;
Railing
Cleats
Fitting vents on aftdeck (now I can only run with the cowl of)
Dummy dash and steeringwheel
Dummy hinges for engine bay deck
Some more detailing in engine bay and dummy V-8 for Zenoah

Like to thank Harold for these excellent pictures;

He liked it also so he is building a V-Box with some of the same features;

Marc,Have any updates and pics of your Zippkits cracker.I like the way you added to and changed the basic design of the kit.I've been thinking of building a Zippkit cracker.I've built a Dumas cracker from a kit and a Dunlap from plans and they're both fun to run.I sometimes find someone to drive one of them to have someone to race against.If I build another that will make it more fun.Just have to find a place that I can set up a race course and leave it up for an extended time.Was offered a couple of farm ponds but they're not big enough to really open up the boats.Post some on the JRCBD also if you can.Get us inspired.

George, did not have much time to get a great deal further. But have installed the dummy V-8 in the meantime. That needs to be finished still but i wanted to see if it worked as a cooling-cap. Made by a german guy Werner Dieckman He as a website up now (not finished yet); www.wd200-modellbau.de/
He makes some cool stuff and modelparts). I altered my V-8 dummy a bit on the mill. Next time i will post some pictures.

The other Cracker, the V-Box is up and running. Some pictures:

Last week i had the time to add some trinkets to the CBox. Fitted cleats, tankvalve cover and flagpole fitting (all in stailess and aluminium). The flagpole is temporarily. Also cut some slots in the cockpit so now i can run it with the cowl and cockpit on at the same time.

This weekend our club was invited to attend "go fast weekend" at a local surfclub. We had fun and finally Harold and me had the opportunity to run some laps together. Oscar took the pictures and they turned out very well. Thank you Oscar!

Kenny, I am sorry i did not catch this one earlier.

I do not have the classic cracker anymore. I sold it after i finished it....... :blush:

If i remember well it was about 1- 1,5 inch high. It's a free design so make it just as you like it.

Good luck with it!
