Here I go again...

mephiskapheles6 created the topic: Here I go again...

Being not totally happy with how my build was going and issues around the model being noticeably different from the original...I have started another build based on Newton Marine plans of Miss Supertest III.

So far I have worked through some scaling up issues, the original plans were 1/8 and I am building this to 1/6, but have managed to get the frame work assembled for the building stand.

Now I have to cut the top pieces, mount the frame, check for square and glue it together.

I am thinking about doing this build with 1/8" ply. The plans say to use 1/16" (for the 1/8 scale) but it is difficult to get around here and very expensive. I think the last time I got it from my local hobby store it was almost $20 for a 1'x4' sheet, where as I can get a sheet 4'x8' of 1/8" for $16

Thnkx in advance for any input.

cheers,
corey

Corey,

Investigate www.koskisen.com. This stuff is made if Finland. A 6 mm (.2362") thick, aircraft grade sheet, will have 12 plys. They sell standard 16" X 48" sheets. I'm using this to machine the side frames of my new straight away boat. The frames will be covered with 1/32 carbon fiber sheets.

I have built a few custom Warpath Riggers with the 12 ply stuff... Very strong and only slightly heavier than the 5 ply. I am building one for myself as we speak. :)

Thnkx for the info...which particular ply product are you talking about? I see a number on the site, but not any that show up as aircraft grade. How did you order the ply? I am assuming that I would order through the U.S. supplier.

Still waiting for the significant other to agree that it is more important to cut up the 3/4" ply for my building stand than it is for the floor she wishes I would install in the house...some peoples priorities!

Any how...here are a couple of shots while I wait for the nod.
