Hi Kenny and wellcome aboard!

As a former boatbuilder I know the method, and it really works good, though it's not needed for lighter bending.
Actually it's possible to bend a 12 x 3 inches plank of oak in that way. It just needs one hour of powersteaming per inch, and it gets allmost like butter. (Well - not quite) ;)
If you want to use same method with bigger pieces of wood for modelgasboats, you should build a straight wooden steambox fx 10x10 inches and as long as you need it. Connect it to a kettle in one end and stuff the other end with some old cloth. Not too tight: The steam must be let out.
The formula: 1 hour per inch thickness goes for oak. Lighter wood needs less - maybe half the time.
Remember: This does NOT work on plywood. It will dissolve...

And thanks to you Kenny for the nice words about my "never ending" project.
I really want to proceed with it, but as you probably has guessed I need some important and hard-to-get hardware first.
So why did'nt I build a boat for a Zenoah with everything standard and ready-to-do?
Well - I guess that's just how I am.

How's it work on ply? Any separation of ply's? Kenny

315Neil.

NEVER use this method on plywood! It WILL separate.
Only massive wood can take the steaming.
But if you can provide or produce planks 3-5 millimeters thick, you can steam them and bend them in place on the hull. Just do it while the wood is wet and hot. Use PU (polyurethane) glue. It actually works best on wet surfaces, which makes the method perfect.
Only issue about this method: Be prepared with a lot of clamps and small nails, work fast and finish the job before the planks cools off an gets dry.
Only use a few nails to position the plank, before using the clamps. Pull out the nails when everything is dry and safely glued in place.
