New Build

BrandonC replied the topic: Re: New Build

Woodie,

Just so you know I'm going to try a variety of methods to see which give the best result...after all this one is about perfection and the outside of the hull has to be TOTALLY smooth for it to cleave the water most efficiently. I think any method used would have to have quite a bit finishing done to get the level of smoothness I want.

Like I said before....we'll find out very very soon with any luck!! :)

All the best,

Brandon.

Hi Guys,

Right so I've made a few final adjustments...the attached pictures are the final design. Don't think theres much else left to finese now. The wing is gone right to the back and been siplified. and the curve under the cowling is changed slightly to make skinning easier.

All the best,

Brandon.

Hi Brandon.

I was about to suggest you to set up the fins as you have done now. It makes it easier to remove the canopy, and it makes it easier to make the rear wing adjustable.
Together with adjustable pontoons working like big trimtabs, you can really do some trimming of the boat.
But still I think you should consider my idea about how to build the rounded bottom. :)

Hi Guys,

Got the ply for the internal ribs today. Believe it or not you can only get 9mm ply in one city in Ireland and its not mine!!! Anyway went to a sawmill and a very nice chap took a piece of 18mm ply and planed it down to 10.5mm (I told him he need not go any further..the extra thickness will help anyway) and then he gave it to me for free!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Just goes to show kindness does still exist today. :)

I expect to begin cutting out the ribs in two days time.

All the best,

Brandon.

Hi Brandon.

Great that you got the plywood you need. Can I get the name of that guy? :)
Anyway, you can't expect the local lumberjac or hardware store to be able to deliver all you need. I myself has bought lots of materials through the Internet.

BTW: I have looked the method, that I have recommended, for building the bottom of the hull up on the Internet.
In english it's called "cold molding".
For a modelboat you should use thin sheets of some strong and bendy wood.
A fine boat like yours deserve the best, and this is really it!
Well, enough about that. You could look "cold molding" up at Google.

Woodie,

Actually everything I need I have already...except maybe a prop.

I'll look into the cold moulding.

All the best,

Brandon.

Brandon.

You do what you think is best. :cheer:
For my part I really consider building the next boat somewhat like yours. But 100% in cold mold to save weight and make it more "flashy".
But that's just dreaming so far...

Hi Guys,

Its all bad news today unfortunately. After drawing out most of the interior rib structure my dad said I am not allowed to use the zenoah out of my mono for both boats and as I am officially broke I cant afford another engine of any type and as the boat was designed around the engine the project has been shelved, possibly permanently.

As a result I will give anyone who might want to build it the plans. Give me your email address and I will send you all the CADD drawings (autocad 2010). At least this way I may get to see it on the water some day.

Aswell as this the replacement grey coil for the zenoah arrived a couple days ago and we tried starting it today but nothing. There was no spark what so ever. The mono has caused far too much trouble and just wants to keep causing problems. As a result if this problem is not the last one a sledge hammer might well be the only solution.

If anyone has any ideas feel free to let me know.

All the best,

Brandon.

Right, an apology is in order to my mono for all the threats and nasty names which were flung its way :S  . Turns out my wiring was at fault and after disconnecting the kill switch and moving the coil spark was once again restored. :pinch:

I got it to idle pretty nice but the transition from high revs back to low is givng problems but only further experimentation with the carb settings will get this right. I had to turn the isolator between the carb and engine upside down because the feed for the water pump was in the coils way so that will have to be moved back under the carb and all going well...hopefully it will get its first run out at the weekend. :woohoo: :woohoo:

All the best,

Brandon.

Hi Brandon.

What bad news. :(
I don't understand how your dad can decide about the use of the Zenoa. But I guess it's a sort of (private) family matter.
So don't totally give give up your beautiful new project. Shelve it, and wait for better times to come. They will, I promise you.

Meantime you ar wellcome to mail me the CAD drawings. You know my adress.
Maybe some day after finishing my mono, I will start building from your drawings.

Best wishes.

Woodie.
