brand new hull up and comming

Woodie replied the topic: Re: brand new hull up and comming

Yeah! Im really in love with that boat too. It really sets a new standard in design.
But it is huge. I wonder if my "tiny little Blata" can haul a monster that size?

looks like hull is running with quite a bit of negative drive angle within water not that rough ?
That is unless full size boats differ from our models

Other than that a really killer looking rig !!

Hi Scott.

If I should guess about the charasteristics for the MGB version, I tend to agree with you, as the very deep steps in the bottom of the original probably would make a MGB overplane or get unstable.
But if you look to Gasworks latest drawing above, it seems that he really has reduced those steps on the MGB version.
I believe in this boat. Time and some test runs will show us more.

What type of engines are in that boat? No. of Cylinders, Horse power, displacement etc?

As for the handling and so on of MGB's, do the techniques used in full sized ones work on the models...as Woodie mentioned the steps may make a MGB unstable. Some Regal speed boats boats have a "bulge" at the front of the hull. The theory is that when the bulge rises out of the water, the section of hull behind the red line already out of the water. Basically are measures such as steps and bulges etc necessary for MGBs?

Hi Brandon.

About what engine to use, there is no best answer. It's up to boaters themselves to get the best of this boat.

Thanks for the drawing. :) I will print it an build a new boat now!
No, really. I understand what you're saying.
As for the steps, I really think they have to be reduced on a MGB. We agree on that.
Concerning the "bulge" you are right too. None the less I am building my Cigarette with a slight bulge along the front part of the keel line. This is a compromise that I hope will make it able to run stable in the choppy saltwaters, and still be able to speed very fast on flat water. Hoping to avoid that ugly chine-walking...
It's all about hydrodynamics. My experience as a former boat builder helps me some of the way, but with your ongoing education you will probably get to know better.
Maybe some day you will design the perfect MONO MGB hull?

Woodie.

You shouldnt have suggested I would make the perfect MGB hull because now I'm actually trying!!!!

I've done a bit of googleing and come up with a few ideas. Right now I'm reinstalling windows on my laptop but within the next week or so I may just put up a few Cadd and inventor drawings of my ideas!!! If one is built anyway close to what I'm tinking right now it would be fast as your blata on cocaine!!! :silly:

You'll just have to wait and see!! :P

All the best,

Brandon.

Brandon.

If you get your project with CAD drawings going, I think you should present it in a new thread in this forum.
Also feel free to mail sketches and drawings to me in the process. As a former boatbuilder I may be able to help you out with some comments/details (or so I hope) :)

the cnc work comences on the 8th of aug for the hatch section.

the steps are so large in the full size machiene to prevent suction from chop and when the boat re enters from a jump.

the problem with a bulge in the bow section is that directly behind it suction is created and alot of turbulence for a surface prop. it is best to have all retern edges as sharp as humanly possible to provide s good release from the water, look at the tail section of a surfboard a tail with a C section tail will be slower than one with a [ section. also planing surfaces should be as flat and as perfect as possible, remember the more hull in the water the slower the boat.
