Water Cooled Intakes

Canadian Hot Rod RC Boats created the topic: Water Cooled Intakes

I seen some guys talking about water cooled intakes and big $$ for them

I made mine last fall - so thought I'd polish it and make it purdy for pictures

my intakes are just a few TSB i got for 20 bucks and port matched them myself

- I bid on a esc cooler (Thought it looked bigger in pic ..lol was actually small) won it for 2.60 incl ship...

I just cut cooler into 2 small strips and pined / JB Weld them to the intake --- seemed to stay so far so thought I'd clean it

total cost 22.60

Those look very nice actually! I used to make my own...back when we were warping the stock iso blocks and nobody seemed to notice or acknowledge the problem...anyway, it was driving me nuts so I made my own out of aluminum and made them water-cooled...exact same principal as yours but mine weren't as nice! :)

A lot of guys were saying these would be a problem cause they could heat up when taking engine in while hot and could cause vapor lock in the carb if it warmed up too much because of the heat transferred trough the alum block as it sat there with hot engine... long story short, with good gaskets I never had an issue with them and never warped another block! lol

Today though with the thick teflon gaskets, this really has become a non-issue. I'm just not sure anymore if water-cooling is worth it...but I think it may be still somewhat good for us northern guys where the water temp is usually WAY below the air temp in the summer time.

Thanks for the compliment .. for me it's been playing with both cooling some enclosed (hatch on) boats in 40C in the south summer and using it to warm engine up when up north here

my problem sometimes is actually warming engines up not cooling them

some water I run in is 5 to 7 C ........... in the summer ......

One of the reasons I went back to smaller water outlets was to try to warm them up a bit .... I need some of those valves Scott used in his Warpath to regulate flow better

This intake will be for my Warpath and I want to run thin gaskets to pull carb in more like Scott did on his - I even milled another 3/16" off it to make sure
