Out rigger Help

manicmechanic created the topic: Out rigger Help

just wanted to start off by saying hello i'm new to all this some one give me a out rigger 3.5 ops and just fell in love i'm a car guy trying to get in the boat world i was looking for some one to build me a out rigger with a single piston 2 cycle power plant. About what would that cost? If thats to much to ask for then can some one help me build one like walk me threw how it's done? i just got a nitro rigger and it flys just seeing if the gas ones are any faster since there alot bigger and a little more easyer to tune. I use to work of a small engine shop and i built many weed eater engines and chain saw motors things that are very like the ones your using in the boats today. Never really build a boat before pretty good with my hands and did lots of wood working projects built a few house in the summer things like that. So any one up to building a out rigger and again about how much will this cost. looking for speed so are the gas boats really faster then the nitro boats?
thanks for your help :S :S :S

Hi and Welcome
There are a few guys here with Riggers Marc has a new kit out

A rigger for a first boat would not be my choice - pretty fast and finicky - not as easy to tune as it looks

I sure lots of guys will pipe in - I've been doing boats for 15+ years and this year is first year I will have a rigger. the new one from Marc on here

Cheers and Have Fun

There are several good kits out there...Blazer Marine has a nice Thunderboat kit and Sport Hydro kit. Zippkits has a bunch, including mono, rigger, and thunderboat. If you are set on doing a rigger though, consider the Warpath too. :) The easiest kit to build in all the above would be the Easy Vee by Zippkits.

Do you want to build a wood boat or just assemble a boat with the hull already made?

there is a lot of builds here

a Thunderboat would be cool - and are around 55 - 60 mph with a mild mod engine

been with the nitro engines for to long want to play with the 2 cycles now. so the question i have is a nitro motor faster then the 2 cycle engines?. every time i look at war path i just want it even more then the time before. ive done the car thing for 10-11 years been in to boats for 2-3 years always had v's maybe i'm doing something wrong but with the v's i had everytime i hammered it the boat just had way to much torque steer even when i changed to a twin ruddle or drop 2 nitro os motors in it spining inwards running a right hand and a left hand prop just to much torque steer.

the nitro's are 2 stroke just like the gas... just using different fuel.

I would suggest a cat. Handling like a mono, speed like a hydro.

Typically, nitros put out more punch per cc than gas motors. It is pretty hard to make and apples to apples comparison though. For heat racing, I've seen countless times when gas boats won over large nitro boats in open classes...so they are very competitive, let's put it that way. The reason so many boaters love the gas boats is their ease of use. Choke/prime, pull cord and go! No support equipment required, fuel is WAY cheaper and easy to get. Also on average, the engines are far more forgiving also and last a very long time with just a minimum of maintenance. All those reasons are what go me to switch over to gas several years ago. Speeds of gas boats has come a long way!
