Prop saver drive shaft!

Ozpulse created the topic: Prop saver drive shaft!

Have been making these to use on my boats! B)
Aircraft grade stainless with the 'ferrul' end stepped so it wont pass through the bush in the strut then centre drilled for gluing/soldering the flex cable in.
I dont like to loose props!

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

So .... how do you actually maintain cable and take it in and out for greasing ?

I hate to put a damper on things but I just purchesed exactly what you are showing. Look at Boats'n'bits in Australia and many other retailers and you'll spot that sitting alongside the flexishaft. They are available with or without thread on the prop end. If it's unthreaded then the cone nut is sold with a grub screw to secure it. I improved mine slightly by filing a groove in the shaft where the grub screw hit the shaft to stop it from slipping or coming off whilst underway. The other end has a square hole for a square flexi shaft to mate to. Nylon spacers are used between the prop and cone nut and the slotted dog and the stinger to stop wear. Commonly called a flexi extension.

Cheers guys! ;)

Scott,
I undo the prop+drive dog then drop the strut bolt if I need to remove the whole thing as I run square drives on the motors.
To just grease I dont remove anything I drill a very small hole in my stuffing tube and support and one in the top fo my strut, I use a meat marinade syringe to grease everything through these holes.

Stu,
I was pretty sure they were already available, The rod doesnt cost me anything(out of time aircraft part) and only takes around 20 minutes to spin one up!
If I dont have to spend money I wont.

Yeah Im a tight &$$! :woohoo:

That is what i was thinking .... while doable for sport applications those of us who tune strut angle and depth within fractions of degrees and accurate in depth would look at this as upsetting your perfect set up once found and NOT what one does once the sweet spot is found

Personally will stay with compression collars around cable at collet for holding cables intact ;)

Isuzu:

My arms are too short for that pleasure :(
Anyway the issue about drives is totally mumbo-jumbo and unknown to me.
I can buy a motor. I can buy an exhaust. I can buy a gearbox. I can buy a couple of sterndrives, and I can buy the electronic box, batteries and servos.
All of this I can manage to install.
But I really need some "how-to-do-for-idiots" information about how to install the (flexi)drives, how to support them, and how to maintain them.
Some link showing simple how-to-do would be very much appreciated!

Cheers! :cheer:
