MPRB

Woodie created the topic: MPRB

MPRB = Multi Purpose Retrieval Boat.

I consider building such a boat.
I imagine a very simple heavy and rugged cat. Not fancy or speedy at all. Just a "working platform".
It should be able to do the retrieval job. But how is that done?
It should also be able to do some "remote fishing" by mounting a small fishing pole in the deck. (Should be able to haul an 8-10 pound salmon or trout without sinking) :cheer:
A powerful but slow and silent running electric motor seems to be the choice.
Does anyone have some experience about this? This should be a simple (wooden) working wessel with no extras.
Ideas, drawings or pics are welcome.

Cheers! :cheer:

RCBM magazine had some plans for one at one point...it was basically two big sponsons (individually powered) held together with a big PVC pipe cage.

Found this one, I think this is the one: static.rcgroups.net/forums/att...pg?d=1126900161

Hi Marc.

Thanks for reply.
The boat shown in your example is too much for me though (size). I imagine some clubs could have one for common use.

My idea is more like a very simple cat with an upright pin in the aft bearing some kind of "lasso" to catch a pulley in the front of the lost MGB.
As suggested, I also have an idea of replacing the pin with a miniature fishing rod in order to do some easy fishing.

Only thing I'm looking for is free advices, free drawings, pics, links, sponsors and economical support...

Cheers! :cheer:

All I can really think of for you is like my old cat airboat, I dont have pics anymore!
2 lengths of pvc angled and screw&glue timber plates in the front, straight at the rear.
1/4 ply between screwed on top, then just make a simple box in the middle to house the motor/electronics. ;)
As a big square working platform it is very stable, just adjust the size of the pvc etc to suit your needs! Rectangular pvc downpipe is good to use!
You can run a piece of steel fishing trace between the sponsons loosely with a sliding sinker to keep it below waterline and hook onto the boat needing recovery.
Also easy to put a rod holder in the deck!
I used mine several times fishing with a friend to take our baits right out further than we could cast!

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

Hi Oz.

Thanks for the inspiration for my tug- and fishing boat. (Is'nt that the worst kind of cheating in sport fishing)?
I think it should be easy and cheap to build "on the side" while I finish the more demanding Cigarette.
Just imagine my son and I onboard my 21' speedboat, "Panic" in calm waters between the islands next summer - with a cold sixpack onboard of course.
First we do some racing with the cigarette trying to match its speed (which hopefully should be impossible). And then a rest at anchor doing some relaxed fishing by letting the retrieval boat doing the job.
Could life ever be better? :P

Well so much for sweet dreams. There is some building to do this winter, and that's great too!

Cheers! :cheer:

Hey Woodie, Don't get impatient with your retrieval boat, I've got some great plans I found awhile back. Just give me a chance to find them. I think you'll like 'em!!! If I were to scan them and post them on here, do you have a way to blow them up? We'll worry about that later though, If you like 'em, give me some dimensions and I'll enlarge them for ya and send them to ya... B)

Hi Isuzu.

THANKS! Plans will be fine as you can present them. I will enlarge them myself and use them as an important inspiration. Precision is not the subject in this case (U know: I'm already building my KAT KILLER from sketch and scratch)

Cheers! :cheer:

Hi Isuzu.

By now you should be getting a lot of R & R, :) , so why don't you put plans and maybe some instructions or advices about that retreival boat in the "RESOURCES" part on this site?
After all life shouldn't be a holiday for an up front guy like you :woohoo:

Just pulling your leg - but still an idea? Maybe?

Cheers! :cheer:
