M&D, CC Racing, TOXIC, etc. etc.

jingalls007 created the topic: M&D, CC Racing, TOXIC, etc. etc.

I am relatively new to the Gas boating experience and want to pick up a Full Mod engine for my new Conquest Cat build (It's my second build). It seems these engine modification companies are alwyas making improvements for more power, more RPM's, more torque, etc. etc. I don't want to purchase an engine that will be outdated within a few months, ie: A new eninge comes out a few months later that has 7.2 horsepower vs. 6.3 horsepower. I would rather get the most power up front then have to do another mod or buy ($$$) another engine down there road. Can anyone tell me what might be the way to go here? I've heard M&D just came out with a new 7 pony engine. Would it be worth it to go with that? or stick with a CC Pro Mod? Or maybe a Toxic Full mod?? Lot's of options, can someone help narrow my search? :)

Thx

There is no magic answer here. I think you go with the builder you trust gives you the most for your money, both product and service wise. When making that decision I would also look closely at the builder's track record and accomplishments (records etc) that says a lot. There are many engine modifiers out there, but if you really look at who's doing what on the circuits, it narrows it down quite a bit! That's my opinion. The fact that they keep pushing out more horses from these little engines is in fact a good thing, otherwise there would be no advancement. If racing classes (and the legality of engines) is not important to you, in other words if you are a sport boater, there are also billet engines/kits out there.

Marc,

Thnaks for the knowledge. I am not a racer by any stretch, jujst my friends anyway, so a "Billet" kit as you said above, where could I go to find out more about these Billet kits? Not entirely sure what this is but sounds good to me.

thanks again,

Old Man Say

" The bigger the horsepower the faster the boat the faster the boat the better the flip / dnf"

As far as the motor goes stay with a well known builder, I can't tell much difference in the motors, they all take a lot of setup time and props to find out what is best for your application. Ed

When I referred to billet kits, I didn't necessarily mean there would be better or worse for that matter, just stating that they are out there. They are X class engines in most cases. Examples would be the J&G kits and the Quickdraw engines. They are usually more expensive than a good mod Zenoah. I guess you will have to shop around and make your choice based on what you want. Sorry I am not much help. CC and M&D both make really good engines. I have also heard good things of the toxic engine.

Engine builders are finding more power every year. I have tested Zenoahs from one builder you mentioned for several years, and each engine is better than the last. However, the power required to drive a boat increases as the cube of the speed so small changes won't give you an advantage that will overcome setup or driving problems. As an example, the G1 hydro record is about 100 mph and the GX1 record is about 110 mph, 1.1 times faster. The cube of that ratio is 1.33 so if the G1 engine had 6 hp, the GX1 engine would need nearly 8 hp, and that is close to reality as far as I can tell. For heat racing, a 6 1/2 hp engine would give you about 1 mph advantage over a 6 hp engine at 55 mph if everything else ts the same. That's almost unnoticeable in an actual race.

CC is definately a good way to go, I,ve noticed has some of the best rounded parts of those three builders. but toxic I think has the best pricing as you can buy a motor for around 200bucks give or take then send it there and have it modded for 175. M&D has that new motor awesome but so is the price!
