Anyone welded a Zen crankshaft to eliminate twist????

Rcer created the topic: Anyone welded a Zen crankshaft to eliminate twist????

After some reading of crankshafts twisting I began to think of a way to solve this problem... Granted not sure if this is possible which is the reason for this post!

What if you were to weld the actual lower conrod pin to the lobes of the crank? This would not allow the crank to twist? Right?

Or will the heat from welding fatigue the metal of the crank?

I would use a mig welder and just burn in the pin area on the OUTSIDE of the lobes and not get crazy with gobs of weld. Then nicely grind the weld and resurface crank lobes smooth.

Just a thought..... and possibly a way to eliminate crank twist.

i have had good luck TIG welding them, but the down side is you might brake the rod if you stuff the boat.

Hi,
I have never welded one but another way to stop twisting cranks is use one of the RCMK 4 bearing crankcases. You can buy them from Gizmomotors for about 60 bucks and that includes bearings and seals.:bye:
I hope this helps.

Usually if you dunk it enough to trist the crank it would also indent the lower half of the big and/or small end of the rod caused by the bearing needles impacting into it. If you weld it and it was straight enough to continue to run in the VERY near future it is going to destroy the whole engine when the bearings fail and the metal runs through the engine. The crank is the fuse of sorts. Something is going to break.
You can't bring a engine spinning 18,000 rpm to a dead stop in a millisecond without something breaking. 1 lb. flywheels store a lot of energy.

when mine did it the bearings on the rod were ok, but your right it does act like a fuse.
