Carb & fuel bag

Zitch created the topic: Carb & fuel bag

Hi guys,
Friends,
I need advice with fuel bag.

Me and my friends we have not a long experience with soft fuel bag. One and half year, not more, I start to use a fuel bag from B.H.Hanson. I am first in our club, who start to use a bags.

My question is how longer you are use a carb rubber parts - gaskets, upper and lower. (I keep in mind 257 Walbro).

I found a poor running :dash: of my hot JG engine, after deep analisys I found a slightly, almost fine ! upper and lower diaphragms... But carb no work good.

Let me know yours viewpoint please

The lifespan of the carburetor's internal diaphragm and pump is relative to the fuel used. Most fuels now contain more and more ethanol and it seems to attack the internal carb parts a lot, requiring much more frequent replacements. As for the fuel bags, if using good quality bags such as Baxter brand or purpose made PVC bags, they should have no ill effects on the carburetors unless they are very old and hard and make it harder for the pump to draw fuel from them. Bags usually last a very long time if you always keep some fuel in them and burp out the air. Hope this answers your question.

So far about once or twice per season for me on most engines, but that's true only when using local gas. Sometimes when I go south for races and have to use gas for other locations, I have to change the diaphragms more often. Where I live we do not have the high ethanol contents in the gasoline yet so it isn't as bad, but it is starting to show in some brands unfortunately.

With gas here in the US all depends on what brand you have to change them after a week or 2 if it sits.
If you find a gas station with no ethonal in it or additives it will last longer but always check them after a weekend of running or take it out ( diaphram )and damp it with a paper towel to absorbe the gas .

Hope that helps out
