OPS 90 on Gas?

Ccat created the topic: OPS 90 on Gas?

I'm a self proclaimed rpm junkie (F1 style) and was wondering if anyone knows of anyone who's tried it. Converting an ops 90 to gas.

Only with a CM ignition installed will it work. Auto ignition GLOW will NOT work.

But. because of the ABC piston/liner and NO piston ring, the by-product of burnt hydrocarbon fuels is CARBON, and that will wear out the piston pretty quick leading to less compression seal and degrading power the more it is run.

After my experiences with CMB 35 AAC pistons and liners (totally worthless!), I wonder about the durability of non ringed pistons in gasoline engines. I know there are aircraft engine conversions, but are they non ringed engines? Gasoline engines have much higher exhaust temperatures, and boat engines have higher power and rpm than airplane engines.

Aren't super tigre 3250\"s rated at 4 ish hp? Couldn't I have pistons with rings machined to fit the ops 90 cylinder? Kind of a reverse engineered thing? On the oposite end can I make nitro fuel with a chemestry set?

Our CMB 35 developed nearly 12 hp at 19,000 rpm. I don't know of any similar sized engines that are close to that power. In the past there were 50cc two stroke twin cylinder motorcycle engines that developed 20 hp, but no model engines are close.

Lots of people mix their own nitro fuel. Now, that may be the only way to get over 50% nitro.

The price of the motors is kinda steep. Can I trade a kidney for two? Wow.
