air cooled engine exhaust.

uprr created the topic: air cooled engine exhaust.

The current boat I'm building has an air cooled engine in it and the exhaust points downward towards the inside of the hull( right at the radio box) I'm planning on useing some copper pipe fittings for now ( until i get something watercooled) I mainly just want to get the heat out of the hull. Any other ideas?

Copper is EXTREMELY conductive too heat adding much more heat to the surrounding area than either aluminum or steel.

but if you must? .... wrap it all IN HIGH TEMP silicone wrap :woohoo:

If your going to solder up the exhaust parts, do so with at least a 10% silver solder, 15% best IMO

Would brass work alright?

Neither brass or copper are the right material under this amount of heat.

Copper is the better choice, brass will anneal then work harden where it starts to flex breaking shortly their after

Let's see a picture of your setup and exhaust...some mufflers can simply be flipped around.

You can just put a 45 degree or so copper elbow on it and that should solve your problem. Warehouse Hobbies also makes a canister that will fit the zenoah that isn't too expensive and has two stacks that point straight up.

Under pic and mono Look at the red boat in the first two pics. Thats setup is another option.

You can also get a steel 45 or 90 deg fitting and braze it on. Also as mentioned there are aftermarket mufflers with top stacks...performance will be a little bit better as they use 2 stacks. The Team Gonads muffler is another example...a little pricey though, but a nice piece.
