Zenoah stalling coming out of a corner

mitchesx created the topic: Zenoah stalling coming out of a corner

Has anyone else ever had this problem? I have a modded Zenoah in a seaducer mono that will either seem to starve itself, (or maybe load up) and either quit running for a millisecond, (or burp) or completely die exiting a corner. I have replaced the carb with a stock one, replaced the IV bag and some of the fuel tubing, I have reset the needles (1.5 turns each) multiple times and gone up and down depending on initial performance. The grey coil has been replaced. I have no problem getting it started, and it may or may not run a few laps with no problems. I burp the bag everytime I fill it. It is intermittant and makes it very unreliable. None of the other boats I run have any issues, so I'm not thinking its the fuel itself. Any ideas?

I have just been through the same ordeal with one of my hydros...ended up being the prop overloading the motor. It was so sudden that I really thought it was fuel delivery or even a servo...changed receivers, servos, gas tank, fuel lines, carb, coil, even changed the engine. Only think that had changed on the boat before it started doing this was the pipe. So I tried different length and still would do it until I finally broke down and tried a smaller pitch prop and all is well, so the prop was overloading that pipe combo. Finally worked it out.

Very Interesting! I am running the boat the way I bought it; I bought it second hand, with an octura 460 something. I will try a 1475, I saw that was what the sdg1 is... I am running a MACS ultra quiet pipe on the boat, at times, it performs well, and others, I just can't get it to complete 10 laps. I run with the hatch on; is there a chance that the water is getting under the hatch and sucked into the carb?

Possibly...you can easily rule that out by installing a small carb shield made with a piece of lexan or plexi-glass. Just velcro it in position over the carb to prevent any water spray from falling into the carb. If you've checked everything else: ie radio, servos, receiver, fuel delivery, air leaks and spark...I would consider trying a smaller prop just to see if it pulls it through the turns...even if it's not the best performing, just to rule it out.

Already thinking about doing it! Question is which prop, I dont think I have much smaller props, at least not with a 1/4 in bore. I'll hve to find out what I have on there for sure and go a size or two down. The guy who had the boat before me made a plastic shield and silicon glued it into the area in the deck that he cut out. It still happened with that shield, although I dont think the shield worked very well. I almost wondered if it disturbed the airflow around the carb, and effected the vaccuum. He had also silicon'd the deck over where the carb is. Most of that has pulled off from running. I'll come up with something, and try shielding the carb again.

Hi :)

Zenoah makes a black venturi add on for the 488 carbs if you use it it will take the entrance well under the deck. Also I can concur that your promblem could be prop size. I have noticed on my seaducer that it required a fat lower end (low neddle) going hard into turns. Props from me or direct from Jerry are avaiable. You can get ahold of him at his website. Can yu send me pics of your boat with its setup ?

This is the first set of pics showing the setup of the boat. I have not changed much since I bought it.

This is the second set of pics showing the setup. The prop is an Octura X472. The motor is 14 inches from the transom to the center of the plug, and the pipe is around 11 to 11.5 inches from the center of the water cooled flange to the beginning of the widest point of the pipe. Dave - thanks for any help you can give me; I'll also email you the pics and ask for a price on the prop at the same time. I do have a velocity stack that I can add to get the opening under the deck lip.
