Identify this engine....

skyray created the topic: Identify this engine....

Question for the Zen experts..... how can I identify which Zen I have???(without complete disassembly!)I don't know if I have a 231 or a 260! Bonzi Sports said the 231 had 3 holes in the fins for head bolts and 260 had 4 holes...Mine is neither! it has 4 slotted half round holes in the fins for head bolts!and when I looked at there parts and pix on there website, the pix for the 231 and 260 are identical!?????3 holes.one sloted one....confused! Does anyone know if Mid West Engines are still around????this is where the engine originated from....it has a half rubbed off decal with Super Comp. on it but I don't know what mods have been done to it?????? any info is greatly appreciated! thanks in advance...!

Sounds like a half breed. The size of engine is measured by the diameter of piston.260 is 34 and 231 is 32

As too identifying a 231 and 260 jug from the outside ? .... Thats EASY ;)

When you look at the top fin just under the water jacket, on the PTO side, you will have ONE HOLE in the fin if a 231 .... TWO HOLES in fin if a 260.
(Early 260's had NO HOLE)

Both the 231 & 260 otherwise identical looking.

Mine must be a early 260???? there are no holes! only 4 slotts (cut outs) in fins for access to jug bolts......how old you figure this engine may be?????

Thanks Scott.yep mine must be an earlier model as it has no holes in fins anywhere.....your jug on the 260 in pix is totaly different from mine, nothing like that.....But were the early 231's different also?? Has there always one hole in fin on 231???

Well thats interesting ... If YOUR cylinder is NOT shaped like picture posted, you DON'T HAVE a 231 or 260  They both look just like photo !!
Yes 231's have ALWAYS had one hole.

My next best guess would be you have an earlier G230 2 port engine ?

How about YOU POST a picture :P
