Somewhere between 12 and 12 1/2 inches (300 to 320 mm) from the exhaust flange on the cylinder along the centerline of the pipe to the point of maximum diameter is a good place to start for many pipes. Actually that distance to the start of the stinger is a a better measure, but sometimes the start of the stinger is inside a muffler can. Go longer with a stock engine, shorter as the engine is modified. We run the same M&D double cone style pipe on stock and modified engines with good results at a fixed length for all. Running it shorter raises the peak power rpm, but lowers the maximum power.
