differences in coils

Can some one please explain the differences between the single coil on a cy
and a zen with a separate primary and secondary coil

thanks

The only difference is the obvious as you already mentioned.

One is self contained as a single unit and the other has a source and a secondary.

What else do you want to know ?

From what i've recently been reading it appears that the cy coil is a tdi and the zen is a cdi

the cy coil uses an scr (Silicon-Controlled Rectifier) to trigger the spark
The final outcome is that the cdi is a hotter spark 25 to 50 kv
where as a tdi is around 20 kv but it has a longer spark duration

Zenoahs ignition measured around 16k volts max at max rpm. Its no higher than this.

A CDI coil typically steps up the voltage 100:1
the "induction" energy stored in the tdi coils secondary core is about 20,000volts
the closer the magnets are to armature, the greater the amount of current induced in the primary coil

so your saying all zens have the exact same distance between the armature and the magnets
and they all have the same amount of windings in there coils

If the input voltage is 150 (which it is) then the out put would be 15,000.

Then where did you get 16000 in your previous post

I said "around 16k " this is working from memory of testing that was done a few years ago, I have complete specs on the test but I'm not publishing them.
Go buy your own test equipment and test it yourself, the findings I have aren't what K/Z claims but what was actually measured.
A whole lot of people have done everything to research the Zenoah and every aspect of it,engine tuners, enthusiasts and engine builders like myself have poured countless hours into finding everything about the engines. And it was done before guys like you came on the scene, no stone left unturned.

Leave the semantics at the curb as well as the petty accusations, I have facts on my side, you have here say.
Because I'm not telling you what you want to hear, instead of facts I'm am wrong?
Have a nice life.

I've probably been doing this longer than you have
and we did the testing since i originally posted this
and you young man are wrong
but you already knew that

Petty accusations???
if hanging out in an online forum is part of the scene
Then yes your way ahead of me
did you come here to answer the original question or to lead your own parade
maybe we should go back and check

Would this be the first thing you posted to me regarding my post #25248
"I suggest you measure the voltage before making statements"
this is the attitude that has young upstarts leave
Reminds me why i left the largest flying club in North America, Politics and
bad attitudes from self proclaimed know it alls

this is a post on The (other) board from the same discussion posted by a 3rd party ,
also where i pulled your First comment from

I contacted Zenoah late last year in regards to coil output.
Zenoah say 24Kv at 20 °C (68 F)

For argument sake, running engine temps would put an ambient temp of 40°C (104°F) around a pull start mounted coil.
Ho much does the coil output voltage drop ?

Now , take a single cdi unit which is bolted in tight up against and shrouded around the front of the cylinder with restricted airflow.
How much hotter would the single cdi unit run when compared to a secondary/ignition coil which is mounted to the pull start ?

My point is the cooler the better.

brogreg;
You came on this forum and asked a question of the members. But in your second post # 25248, you seem to have your own answer. Then when someone offers some info to YOUR question, you argue with him. It begs the question; did you really want info, or did you come to discuss what you think you know?

Bob and I don't always agree on everything, and that's good. But I can tell you that the 2 of us have been on these forums since the first coming. I am fully aware of those extensive ignition tests that were done on our systems, the ones Bob is talking about.

If you ask a question and don't agree with an answer, move along or ignore it. But if you are going to argue with people that you're asking to help you, YOU will soon be ignored.
