Testing Coils

How do tell or test which coil is not working properly bar pulling them out and replacing one at a time, one of my boats sounds like a rev limiter is on and it wont get on the pipe

Thanks Bob that is great but how do i test them sorry do you bang a multimeter into them or what sorry for the dumb reply

Yeah buddy, use a meter across the points in the remarks column on the right in the table above, and compare your actual readings with the ones in the standard column. A meter that will suffice your needs can be had for a more than reasonable price if you don't already own one. Let us know how you go.

(When they say voltmeter in the table above, you'll actually be using the ohm meter in the meter. )

multimeter set to OHM
source coil
1) red wire (red probe)/ black wire (black probe) = reading
ignition coil
1) plug wire(black probe) / red wire (red probe) = reading
2) red wire (red probe) / metal of coil (black probe) = reading
3) red wire (red probe) plug wire / metal of coil (black probe) = reading
