s254 evo starting problem.

HardKhor74 created the topic: s254 evo starting problem.

I have just cameback in boating after a long break. I bought a hull and a brand new rcmk s254 evo with walbro 1048 carb. This thing will never start. Then I found out I have no spark. Then I change the ignition coil. Still no spark. Then I also change the source coil, still no spark. Could it be the plug? Or should I ground it up like all the other post commented? Can one show me a picture from ignition to where is the best to ground it up to?

Anyone please advice. Its been 2 weeks still haven't kicked over. What I pity? Please help.

Have you checked the air gap?

I set my air gaps with a standard business card (about 0.014 inch think). Puts the air gap on the money every time.

At lot of those "shorted ground blues" will go away and stay away if anti-seize is applied to every screw which
can provide a ground to the ignition.

One of biggest problems with early RCMK was secondary coil - if you set gap and no change - change the secondary or pickup coil.

In your initial post you ask "could it be the plug?"... of course it could be! :) That should be the first thing you change... then move on to all the other stuff. No spark = first thing, replace spark plug.... then proceed to more troubleshooting if that doesn't fix problem. :)

Good advice Marc. Always start simple and go to the coils after. Most times after a plug change with no luck it will end up the secondary coil. Source coils IMO dont go very often. Hope you get it figured out soon.

Thks for the setting chart. Actually it was the ground cable and now I will try the carb setting.

Usually it'll be the secondary coil that goes bad. I started using Zen coils on mine. Another place to check if it won't start are the bullet connectors.
Get rid of the stock pull-starter and get yourself a good easy-starter, it makes a world of difference in getting them fired up!
