Silent engines? NO more TS PUM reed cases will be made.

A PUM engine just died recently. Because of low sales revolving around on line sabotage, Trevor Simpson will no longer make the reed cases for the PUM application (but still make the air cooled versions). There may be over 100 TS PUM reed cases out there, and their owners may want a good top end kit for them. If you have a set laying around, there are only 2 people I know of who are willing to set you up with a good top end kit, and who have the experience to do so (Including race wins and records set). Leaving out Trevor Simpson himself, those two builders are probably either Chris Bartalone in CA., or my self here in Michigan. If you want to bring your cases back to life for less than many piston port builds, contact me at (616) 458-8103, and I will be happy to build you a top end kit of your size choice. You can expect it to beat anything Zen (with a Zen cylinder of equal size)---but not the new QD engines (unless you want me to use a QD top end).

The TS PUM reed cases were a great product made right here in the USA, and made a great engine, if they were built right. Yours can be also.

To the production of the TS PUM reed cases---RIP. You will be missed by those "in the know".

Low sales are due to economy and market saturation more than sabotage. Not to mention the boat market is the wrong market for the product.

Doug, do what you do and make your engines better and better. Dont let small things distract your overall goal. Your engine is running good in a boat so...... go figure the market.

If Trevor is done; What are you doing to develop a reed engine system capable of 26k+ rpm?

Set new goals and continue to reach them. Id also consider doing cnc port work on other gas/nitro engines as well if I had your equipment.

Toroidal head buttons etc. definately have a market - so why not start doing some of those type of things????

Doug, with the equipment you have in your shop, you should be able to produce the reed crank cases with no problem. The only difference is, it's going to take a little longer because TS was probably using a real CNC machining center. Your Tormach will do a superb job. Like I said, it's just going to take a little longer.

I have a Tormach as well, and I know full well what they are capable of.

I was going to say I might have been a bit harsh there and apologize, but this quote of yours, "Not to mention the boat market is the wrong market for the product.", is the exact sabotage I was thinking about when I wrote the thread.

But instead of me going off, and telling you about our wins and a world record right now (with only about 3 engines out there), and accusing you of being as thick as an obama supporter, who also sabotages our entire free market--which he knows nothing about,
I may be able to offer you a reed case long block to try out. The cases can't win races by them selves. They have to have the right top end kit on them. I know you never tried mine,---or you would not have written that. Let me use your best piston port top end kit, and I will make it better on reed cases. :)

I have no plans or desire to try to reach such high RPM. I don't want to sell something that will break.

I cnc port a ton of air cooled engines and top end kits. I make my living on those, and they keep me busy. I don't have a lot of time for cool new projects, but I will continue to offer my piston port PUM kits and engines (which are improved again for 2013). They are starting to sell OK, and I get nothing but good feed back from them, with the little feed back I do get. Check out my new 30.5cc kit coming out next week.

You and I disagree there 100% Steve. 1st, my machine is almost always loaded with cylinders, and I would not be surprised if it took 5 hours or more to finish a set of reed cases and reed block on the 1.5hp machine. I think it is great machine for prototyping such a part, but no way for production. I would have to move to a bigger place, and get a "real machine" (like you said.---I would like a 20hp HAAS) to be able to look into production like that. Then---they would have to sell. Here we had a great looking part that worked great (with a properly built top end on it), for a decent price, and they did not sell well enough to justify production. I was the only spokes person for them, and a newer engine builder (for the boats) that not many boaters knew of---but I tried. It's sad, because I know more people would be winning with them today if they sold decently 2 years ago.
But Steve man, there is no way I am pulling off my cylinder porting production to make 2 sets of cases per day. I need a other machine and more space before I can take on work like that (for others also). I would also need to purchase the design from Trevor if I made them for sale for myself, or I would not sleep well at night.

By the way, watcha makin there in that tormach pic?

I think we need to leave the foul language and the politics out of the replies here or anywhere else on this site.

Foul language especially should be banned because there are kids who might visit with their parents. Yeah, kids hear that language at school and from their friends, but we're supposed to be adults who watch out for our children.

Yeah, I made a political comment and I know I shouldn't have done it, and it won't happen again.

In the opening of the jokes and humor section, we are asked to leave politics, racism and foul langage out because if we don't, the admins will help us by deleting those posts. The same should hold true throughout the MGB site.

Marc and the other admins are running a class act here. Let's keep it that way.

I would love to see a political section here at MGB (come on guys--goped nation has one---opps :).----Well, they do). There may be more than one reason why politics is kept out of public places---but we need to talk about it,--in a "uniting way".

I have come to understand that the 2-party system is the most divisive system in the nation. Nothing divides Americans like the 2 party system does (with the help of the TV, radio and news paper media). What would rush talk about with a "no party" system?--He is part of the game also (like almost all of media)--ya see?

To me, talking politics is about rep vrs dem (groups made to supposevely fight each other--but only citizens fight each other). But what we need to talk about is "Liberty vrs Tyranny"

If we talk about "Liberty vrs Tyranny", watch us unite.
