CY Ups The Ante

The rumor about Chung Yang building a large displacement marine motor looks like it
is not a rumor any more.

CY never upped the ante in any significant way, unless they found cheaper slave labor. The customers of CY usually simply copy existing engines, primarily Zen. After over 10 years of production, they still can't get the plating process reliable batch after batch. To this day, when you buy a CY engine, you are taking a chance of the cylinder plating going south in a few tanks of fuel, and I just replaced 3 of them in the last 2 weeks. I eat the cost of their incompetence. Their customers are not engine designers, and could not even put in 2 more cylinder bolts when they knocked off the Zen RC air cooled engine. Zen got knocked off by slave labor, and you better thank your lucky stars that Husqvarna bought the RC engine line from Kamatsu, or Kamatsu probably would have dissolved the little RC engine line---and we would be stuck with junk cy products. It was husky who gave us the 4-bolt air cooled engine, then CY knocked it off within months---as usual. Nobody steals R&D work as fast, cares less about cylinder plating, or uses slave labor to keep costs down like the CY factory.

You will see no cheering from me. I have no love for the CY factory. They make more junk cylinders than anybody in the world IMO, and they can care less because we have to eat the cost of their failures if we build from CY products.

No eBay APP ID défined in Kunena configurationWhile it is too early to get specs that are know to be accurate for the CY 463W,
some are wondering if this is a simple chainsaw engine fitted with a marine cooling
cap or is this another factory built mild mod motor from CY ???

Here are some interesting stats to compare.

On this page we have the CY R460 scooter engine. The rated horsepower is 4.2+ HP
@ 11,000 RPM. Max.; 45.7cc; No Load RPM 18,000, Bore 42mm; Stroke 33mm

www.chungyang.com.tw/en/product01-r460.html

On this page we have the CY 463W with a rated horsepower 6.8 HP @ 6800 RPM (without
tuned pipe and with the RPMs raised above idle it's making almost 7 HP ???).

When the two engines are compared for HP vs RPMs, there is a significant discrepancy.

Maybe the specs are not correct??? Not saying they are incorrect - just trying to find
out.

Next question that comes to mind is "what is CY comparing these engines to?". Do they
intend for these to be competitive with all the twins on the market or do they have
something else in mind?

Then I stumbled upon two engines listed on the SDS Hobby web page that I had never
seen before. Hmmm, maybe these are what CY is positioning themselves to compete with?

That previous post got a complaint about getting the listing from eBay.

The CY 46cc engine is listed on the XV Performance Products eBay store:

I will try a different link:

stores.ebay.com/VXperformancep...14.l1513&_pgn=1

Click on the "46cc UP Marine Engine" to the left side.

EDIT: OK, that appears to be a workable solution.

Gee Doug, why don't you tell us how you really feel.

I do agree though. I did several engines for myself when I had my CNC shop, and I don't think any of them lasted more than about 5 heat races (5 heats, not 5 events) before the chrome started flaking off the cylinder and ruined the engine.

I was working in the garage with the door open and a boat sitting on a table outside about a year and a half ago and a young kid (15 or so) rode by on his Goped and saw the boat.

He stopped to chat and during the course of the conversation he told me he had another scooter at home with a blown engine. As we chatted, I remembered I still had a cylinder and piston from CY in my box of goodies, so I pulled it out and gave it to him.

It was kind of funny because his dad came down that night and asked is I was trying to buy sexual favors from his son. I told him "no, I just have a bunch of parts laying around that I will probably never use, so someone may as well get some good from them". He apologized, we shook hands, he said thank you and went on his way.

I don't know about that reply (but I guess a question like that could deserve such an answer), but what a strange thing for that father to say to Steve. I wonder if some deranged public school teacher made this man so paranoid?

Of course I say what I think Steve, and I reserve the right to change my mind at any time. :)

I understand his position completely. After all, this "is" Southern California and there are a lot of wierdos out here.

I remember when Ronald Raegan left Washington DC, someone said "he was moving from the land of socialites and dignataries to the land of fruits and nuts". I don't remember who said it, but they were actually pretty close.

About the discussion above, my comment must be that sex generally is totally overrated.
What do you get of it? First you spend drinks, that you really cannot afford. You say things that you don,t mean to get her on. Then comes the sweatty part, after which you fall asleep totally exhausted from performing all of the hard physical parts. Then when you awake with a dry throat crying for a Cold beer, and her first questions are: "Do you still respect me"?, and: "Will you merry me"? Etc.... (some will know the drill).....
If you stay after this inquisition, you are lost. In LOVE, and nobody can help you hereafter. :P
If not: Get the F*ck outta there! Any excuse will do! :P

Just my humble advice. ;)

Cheers! :cheer:

Woody.
