Interesting threads. And perhaps it is not a bad thing to see some heated opinions and discussions but we should never take things too personally in my opinion.
Here’s my contribution in respect of Zenoah (please bear in mind that I’ve had far less experience than many of you here): So a bit of a humble post <grin>.
My first gas engine was a Zen copy that came with a ready to run boat (sold as with a Zen). Proved very reliable and with a well made copy of the Walbro 644 carb, but the weakness being its pull start even though it has not yet failed.
My second engine was a genuine stock Zenoah 260PUM fitted to my Lynx (Delta Force) mono built from scratch. Two years after building and running the boat regularly, the Zen continues to impress me with its bullet proof reliability, easy starting etc. I’ve not had to replace a single component including the spark plug or pull start.
My third engine is the Zen7 from Prestwich Model Boats. I expect that once installed into my new build project it will deliver nearly twice as much power as my current stock Zenoah (with better quality pipe and non wrap to centre manifold).
My point here is that for me personally, having found an engine that has proved faultless I will stick with the devil I know. For me Zenoah has bettered my expectations and has given superb value for money.
As much as the very opening topic did appear to be a bit of an advert, for me it would not at all tempt me to move away from Zenoah as my key engine choice.
Cheers
