"Premium or Regular?"

Yes, the STOVE FUEL is White Gas ....

Mixing 10 ounces oil per gallon is excessive IMO for a Zenoah, tho that is whats recommended for the billet QD engines. 7 or 8 ounces would be far better.

Actually it is NOT filtered more, if buying fuel from a quality vendor it ALL gets the same filtering.

** If we are talking Zenoahs or lower compression engines **

The HIGH octain fuel actually hurts performance because not ALL the fuel gets burnt at TDC during the combustion process. The unburnt fuel is released into the exhaust system when it finishes burning causing higher exhaust temperatures and adding NOTHING to the power of the engine.

A lower octain fuel completely burns up during the combustion process adding to the BTU's, engine in turn produce greater power.

FYI .....

i realize the lower octane burns more completely but with an aluminum pipe the extra heat doesn't bother my boat. mobil filters their gasoline through finer filters as the octane goes up.

Your missing the point :( Heating up the pipe with unburnt fuel does not add power.
Creating MORE HEAT by burning ALL the fuel at time of combustion does create more power !

Your filtering argument is fine, but it is a mute point unless your buying your fuel in Mexico or some 3rd world country.

Black Talon replied the topic: Re:

my filtering argument is not MOOT because of the deposits that build up in an engine, caused by impurities in the gas. slowing the efficient burning of any octane gas.

If you are getting fuel related deposits within your RC 2 stroke boat engines you must indeed be using some lousy fuel.

This thread IS about the attributes of regular and premium grade gasoline, not the degree of it filtering.

You obviously feel strongly your observations of fuel related deposits are important enough to ignore the octain issues addressed here :S .

That choice is yours to make.

I've ran both regular gas and straight camp fuel in my engines and have had no problems, except for when I used a new mixture with regular gas with an ethanol blend. The motor wouldn't idle good and ran on the water even worst.I went and got some gas at a station that didn't blend with ethanol and mixed up a new batch and the engine ran fine again.Sta-bil has a new product that is for marine engines to mix in fuel that has ethanol.Has anybody tried this yet? www.goldeagle.com/sta-bil/stabil_marine.htm The camp fuel runs about the same as good regular gas and I haven't had to change my settings when using it and the engine runs a little cooler..Haven't tryed the camp fuel /regular gas mix yet,but will.Stick with the regular gas or camp fuel or mix and don't waist your money on high octane.

I have run camp fuel, 87, 89 and 93 and never saw any difference in performance. We even have guys in the club that run 100 octane avgas in their motors with no problems. If there is a power drop from the slower burn, it is probably very minimal, and would only be seen on a dyno.

But what do i know.
