I hope you solved the problem with the distributor drive so that the timeing wouldn't vary 3-5 degrees , I don't think MoPar ever did.For some customers we made a new dist. drive shaft and loaded thrust plates which helped but was illegal in the stock classes back then. Finally decided 440 wedge was a better overall motor to build AKA 440 six pack and derivatives. Hemi Sounds like a fun project. Ed

ED , i would be honest with you , hadn't really given the distributer that much thought, was thinking on going with a pickup on the flywheel, then running it thru a electronic ignition coil pack???? similar to Webber Precision?
I guess there is so much thought put into the actual drawing of the Block/heads/crank/cams/gearing...etc that when it comes to the actual running you tend to get caught up with the building and the end result seems so far down the track.
Good insight you have there ED cheers. ;D ;D

Technology is GREAT If I were to build any engine today that is exactly what I would do. I even converted the ignition on my supercharged 1948 MG TC (but it still looks stock) Have fun with the project. Ed

Have fun with the Mustang , You bit off a HELLUVA project there , I have about 25 hrs in a full size one that I helped restore several years ago. Before I retired one of the companies I did some work for was working on a aircraft conversion for a aluminum 502 Chevy with gear reduction drive, I havn't heard how it came out, there wasn't much of a market for it either. Years ago I adapted a Buick alum. V8 (Rover)for one of my Modified Pitts Specials ,turned out too heavy, that was a snappin-bite ya in the a** bi**h. Have Fun While You Can Ed

i couldnt help but notice the thread. also i see your having issues with distributor timing and such. have you ever heard of gary conley? he is the owner and builder at conley precision engineering. he builds 1/4 scale car engines. i beleive one of them was the 427 and he also built a replica v-10 viper engine with 4 speed tranny. he might be able to help you with your distributor problem. guy is a geneius, and more than willing to talk to people about the engines he builds. very nice stuff. but if you are ready for a huge project maybe you check out this guy named CLEN TOMLINSON he built a model deltic engine and ill tell ya, looks very complicated with phasing and timing. all of it is very cool they sound amazing too.

I worked for then partially owned a nameless skunkworks r&d company where we worked om everything from formula 1 engines to GP motorcycles and also did performace development for the big 3 at different times. Had lots of fun,met some interesting people, saw most of the world doing it. Don't research this name as I used a alias to keep family from knowing what I was really doing for many years.
I also enjoy building models and can really appreciate the time that it takes to build minature replicas.
I solved the problem in the old chrysler street hemi dist. drive then sold the rights to a mopar aftermarket supplier. I don't know what happened after that but it completely solved the dist. problems.
Have Fun Enjoy life while you can. Ed
