Coils and RPM's?

Ozpulse created the topic: Coils and RPM's?

I keep hearing that certain coils on weedy motors limit the rpm's they are capable of.
If this is true what coils should us poor people be on the lookout for?
Is there someplace we can look to find the info on our coils?
Can our coils be modded for more rpm?
Can we just put a better coil on for better top end?

Thanks again guys! ;)

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

Your question is a valid one but too vague in what or who's engine the coil is your asking about.

Issue with the less expensive engines generally is an ignition system that is NOT a CDI type and has limits to how many cycles per second it can generate current and collapse creating the spark. Most of these systems won't regenerate when approaching the 10K range.
Some manufacturers will have coils specs set up with a peak rpm limit as a mechanical failure safety preventing over rev.

With so many of the Zenoahs of old ( G230pum ) and newer G260pum used around, do yourself a BIG service by buying a decent engine while being frugal with the rest of your building etc ;)

im living proof that building a homelite engine is a long and teedious task only to get minimal performance from my efforts. (i messed up the timing) after 2 years of modifing it, i hate to say i gave in and purchased a stock zenoah g260pum.
but hey i do have an awsome looking paper weight for my desk at work.

with that said
i learned alot building a homelite, and yes there are some better parts than others , depending on year it was made . etc..
