ZOMAX engine

isuzudude created the topic: ZOMAX engine

Has anyone had any dealings with a Xomax engine? The reason I'm asking, for the DIYer on a VERY tight budget, these sell for $79.00 new in the box on ebay. They're water cooled with a clutch. Looks like they might be a little tricking making a mount for them, but if in a bind and really wanted to get into this, it might make a good motor... Just food for thought for somebody wanting to do a cheap build.

Will it run ... likely, when it fails and you seek parts to fix it :S
By the time you pay freight your 1/2 way to a $200 delivered to your door Zenoah.

? will pipe adapters fit that engines exhaust ?
? will mounts fit it ?

Frankly, going cheap, this cheap is an exercise of wasting your money thinking your saving money

That housing is identicle to the 26cc victa motor I had in my 41 mono right down to the coil bracket!

Awwwww! Your little engine is sooooo cute!

Scott, I agree totally. I put a 36cc scooter engine in my 80" cruiser (I'M ALMOST FINISHED WITH IT) and building mounts for it was tricky to say the least. I did a test run with just the hull and was cavitating real bad, so I'm doing some adjustments before I post build pics and vids.
But anyway, that's why I said for the DIYer, it would consist of building your own mounts and exhaust. I was just throwing it out there to see. Oh and shipping is $20.00. Like you said, that's 1/2 the price already of a Zen.

I have to agree with Scott on this one. To save $100 and most likely have little to no after sales support for parts and accessories etc... just not really worth it. Plus the fact that it will most likely be lower quality than RCMK or Zen. In my opinion if there's one part one should not go cheap on a boat build (2 parts actually), it's the engine (and the radio(. It's the base of your entire project. Start with a well known powerplant. Save money by making your own hull, making your own hardware, modifying your own props, etc. Engine and radio = go with good stuff! Just my honest opinion.

Again Marc.. I agree totally. But it's like the one guy in the DIY forum, y'all give him some good links to cheap(inexpensive) parts and still complained. So I threw this out there for the person who really has the want to get into this hobby, but doesn't have the funds to buy the more "racing" type engine and hardware. I'm a scratchbuilder through and through... I've built airplanes with a 15' wingspand to a 6 wheel drive monster truck with a Ryobi 31cc on it. I'm just now getting into boats and I am "HOOKED" hook, line, and sinker!!!! AND LOVIN' IT!!!! Tomorrow is the debut of my 80" cruiser... You'll see how bad I've got the bug... and final tally...$327.96 TOTAL.

This was just one of my projects... we like 'em big in Texas!!
